The wonderful Mr John Bly. His forensic knowledge and palpable enthusiasm is a joy to watch and listen to. He was one of the main reasons I watched the show down through the years.

Oh, to be able to touch these wonderful wooden panes and feast ones eyes on these great old, well-kept pieces of furniture! They have such a beautiful luster, sheen and smell to them, it is a sensory delight to be in their presence. Truly awe-inspiring craftsmanship!

It’s such a shame they no longer feature furniture like this on the Antiques Roadshow these days.

You are so right. These days it is all about Fiona Bruce. It has all been pared back to personalities. Though I love many of them.

The market for "brown" furniture has gone the way of the dodo. All the people who want it are dying off. Mid century modern is where the money's at these days.

It's easy to forget that the Antiques Roadshow used to feature antiques. How did it all go so horribly wrong?

He market for old furniture is dead. So are the people who used to buy it. Mid century modern is desirable to the buyers now.

John Bly is still going and now works with his son. For the finest English furniture, you could not do better than talk to Bly senior or junior
