I love your videos. I learn so much watching them. My love of history comes from my Dad, who served in the military for almost 28 years. I love the American Revolution and the Civil War the best. I'm proud of my Scots-Irish ancestors raised in the mountains of NC. They were against slavery and joined the Union Army. Two of my great-great uncles and 3 brothers in law all went together and only one made it through the end of the war (though two made it to 1864). Gary, I know what it is like to have Tarheels in the family, and living in Montana, I loved your video on the Little Bighorn Battlefield. You did a great job, and that is not an easy battlefield to explain.

Hi Garry! PLEASE do the Strong Vincent facial hair. We who are from north western Pennsylvania are VERY PROUD of him. Vincent was actually born in Waterford, Pennsylvania. Very close to Titusville, PA, where my parents, my siblings and I were born. Titusville is also the first oil well drilled by Col. Edwin L. Drake, and was the beginnings of Standard Oil via John D. Rockefeller. In Erie, PA, right on Lake Erie, there is a Strong Vincent High School honoring Vincent. I have 2 relatives who were in the 83rd PA Vols, under Strong Vincent, fighting on Little Round Top! All you mostly hear about is the 20th Maine. The 83rd PA Vols were at the right flank of the 20th Maine and near their "sister" regiment from NY.

Excellent presentation ABT - not the "typical" LRT one or, thankfully, no whining about LRT being closed. But rather, Col Dowds explaining Warren's lack of authority to direct troops (I wish the battle map was on-screen longer - but thanks for not "locking the camera" only on the speaker), Chris Gwynn's addition of some of the archaeology involved with the restoration, and Kris White's battle over memory - how "LRT's savior" evolves by generation.

It's amazing what these treasures can tell us. Glad to see little round top is being cared for. That flag for the battery is just amazing and I was blown away that this was given by the empress of Austria, I believe that had to be the wife of Emperor franz-josef, Elizabeth. Also those field glasses are just amazing and I never seen them and it gave me chills to know that these were in chief engineer Warren's hands that day on the second day of the Battle of Gettysburg on Little round top.

All in all there's slways something new to learn about the Battle of Gettysburg. I've been there five times since my Mom first took me and a cousin there back around 1970. Since then I've become a self taught Military historian/wargamer, (not minatures) maps, chits and computer simulations. Gettysburg is one of the most fascinating battles/campaigns of all of the Civil War battles/campaigns that I've studied over the years. Having the NBT and NPS guides as a resource is something that people who are interested in American military history and the Civil War generally should be eternally grateful for. ALL of you people are a national treasure that can easily bring back to life the chartacters on both sides that used to get lost in the big picture storties about this fight. Keep it up. You are all very appreciated by people at every level of interest in this this battle (and a bunch of other smaller/less well known battles too. Many thanks to all of you!

Dan Sickles was NOT a Boy Scout! He was, as well, not a member of the West Point “club” as so many other chroniclers of the Battle of Gettysburg are. But he gave Meade the one gift that ensured the Federal victory at Gettysburg….Time. III Corps engaged Longstreet in a manner that prevented the absolute route of Little Round Top. They made it possible for Colonel Strong Vincent to mount a defense of Meade’s flank “with five minutes, to spare”! For this fearless act and the bravery of III Corps, in general, Sickles is wrongly denigrated by historians.
