RIGHT?! They are literally just rehashing their own old stories. They aren't even new takes on the original fairy tales. Recreating the exact same stories you already made (line for line, shot for shot) does not make you a creative genius or a powerhouse. It's safe, lazy, and lame.

Why remake the classics in live action when you can just re-release the original? That's what the kids SHOULD see, not this stupid, useless moneymaker. I think it's pointless. Okay, ONE was good, but the rest? Disney, stop.

I'm actually not that much of a fan of the disney revival era. I find many movies that come out now bland and empty. Yeah there's the animation, music, storytelling and positive messages Disney is known for but for some reason it feels forced and -like i said- empty. It's aimed at financial success and, well, nobody can deny that's working out well for them. The 90s films just had something extra, they had that "soul" or whatever it was. Can't fully put my finger on it. Personal nostalgia perhaps but there's more to it, it's not just that. I do love Tangled and the Jungle Book remake tho. Movies like Frozen, Moana, Princess and the Frog and the Beauty & The Beast remake were enjoyable but nothing that really hits me. They're PC and very safe. Keep up the good work with your videos though! Enjoying your stuff, even if I disagree on some points :)

I can't be the only one who thinks that most of recent Disney films are bad, right? :-/ Not to mention how awful almost all their live action adaptations are. I'd have never shown anyone any of those. I find their existence to be repulsive in nature. Disney wants to prey on nostalgia and generate income at lowest cost possible. Not from me, thank you.

Rhaenyra Reigns Completely agree! It frustrates me to see so many people falling for the nostalgia ploy. But as long as people fall for it, Disney will keep making these awful ~live-action remakes~ This is personally my least favorite Disney era.

Same. I want that drawn magical wonder style back. Aladdin, Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Hunchback, Lion King etc. Drawn stuff, not those rendered stuff.

Completely agree. I fell in love with the original, so much so I'm working in the animation industry today because I wanted to be a part of that magic. So this is incredibly sad to see Disney going in this direction and effectively cannibalizing itself for the sake of profit. We've definitely entered Disney's Dark Ages

Oh Disney’s recent animated movies are pretty good! My personal favorite have to be either Wreck it Ralph and Moana, but the live action remakes are......ehh? I mean, I liked Jungle Book and Pete’s Dragon was pretty damn good too, but I’m just going to say it: I hated the Live Action Beauty and Beast because it basically retold the same exact story with less passion or emotion and added crap that left little to no impact because...well, it didn’t fit well with the stuff from the original. I agree, Disney is In a pretty great spot right now with everything they own, but if they’re going to keep remaking their animated classics, they need to do something different with the source material or not do it at all.... I prefer the latter, but Disney will probably disagree.

There's nothing brave about remaking critically acclaimed and commercial blockbusters like Beauty and the Beast into live action, what would be brave is if Disney stopped trying to recapture the show tunes/broadway musical formula of the renaissance era and instead returned to Walt era Visual symphonies, this era of Live action remakes cannot and will not be remembered as a great era for Disney, you're just wrong man, history will prove me right (does anyone even remember the live action remake of 101 Dalmatians? I stand corrected) this era is worse than the dark/bronze age of Disney, they're creatively bankrupt.

So now that all we've had in terms of new Disney animated films are two sequels to films that were already popular (Wreck-it-Ralph and Frozen) and we have countless live action remakes of old animated films with not even a single mention of anything Disney is doing that's a new animated film project that's not a sequel to anything already successful with mostly just Pixar doing anything in terms of new animated movies, what did we learn?

It seems that Moana doesn,t have the same strong success that the others had... anyhow.. since John Lasseter is gone will see what will the New Projects will be? Now the revival with the live action versions are going well.. and The incredibles 2 is almost here so maybe in a year of so, we,ll witness the impact of no John... but I think he ,ll will be replaced very soon... and I think that it should be by 2 persons.. one for Pixar and another one for Disney.

Since you mentioned the newer Disney animated films, I will add my 2 cents worth about them and modern animation in general. Everything is computer generated.I have no problem with the existence and use of computer generated animation . My problem is hand drawn animation, which I believe has much more heart , is no longer done.It is becoming a lost art and because of that, years from now probably nobody will know how to do that kind of animation. Both kinds of animation should be used in movies.

I hadn't thought of that angle, for me I thought it was a way to establish and grow their in-house live action crew. Disney has had success with the Marvel movies but Marvel Studios handles all of that, by remaking classics they can cut their directors' and producers' teeth on subject matter that needs little tweaking or visual reimagining, that is guaranteed to make its money back due to brand recognition, and is simple enough that additions by those directors and producers will bring welcome interest without giving them too much room to muddy the story. In each one they feature at least one major star to add another layer of legitimacy and oomph to what could end up being a just okay movie like Maleficent. Great editing on those jokes by the way, Home on the Range especially lol
@JauntyProfessor

It's nice that your at least optimistic unlike certain other people in the comments. @Rhaenyra Reigns, @MarissaOfUnderground @AutovolrGTS @Jamie 'O Connell @Emmanuel @Katie Logue @maxis2k Which I feel most of what all of you said is more disrespectful. I'm really getting tired of all you people complaining about remakes or revivals. Sure one of their purposes is money, but that goes with every movie out there, and we do have to make a living off of money since nothing comes for free for the most part. So think first before you complain about people using money in the entertainment industry. And yes we may not watch them as much as the original, though the same could be said to any new movie nowadays. But at least it's nice to see these people's takes on the source material. and it's better than nothing when some of us give up on trying anything new. An you need to keep in mind that the originals, though classic as they may be aren't all perfect. Then again there's no such thing as a perfect movie. Sure the animation may still be impressive especially for their time, but sometimes how they tell the story and characters may not hold up well in today. Hell why else do we have those dumb channels like Screen Junkies and Cinema Sins pointing out every plot hole, mistake, inconsistency, goof, or even a scientific error. And shame many people call these "reviews," even though they are not and this formula along with what Doug's doing of bullying the creators who did what they can with these films needs to stop.

I don't think the live action remakes are all bad, but they're also largely unnecessary IMHO. I will admit that Disney has been making some solid CG films in recent years, but I also wish they would try again with classic animation. Still, I suppose it is a revival and I do like most of their CG films, so...meh.

No No...Fuck’n No...I haven’t seen a single live action remake and never will. With exception to a few of the new Disney animations the live actions show that the creative talent only extends to a point and then it’s let’s remake the old but this time with real people. Really?! Really!? Are there anymore stores to be told or were they tapped out long ago? Come on. You’re telling me that Disney can’t find a story worth animating anymore?!? I am sorry, remind me of the original Disney model? Create never before scene animation of stories that make you believe in something, learn something, and feel a tad bit older and wiser from watching it. I am not a believer in magic never was and never will be but the days when a movie made the hair standup, heart flutter, smile on the inside, and believe the world isn’t an all bad place are gone. Disney is dead and the magic is merely fake aroma therapy designed for you to buy toys and feel like the world revolves around you for a day. It’s gilded exterior hides lack of storytellers, artist with a vision, and something worth saying. All that’s-left is the name and that’s it. Sorry, I feel like I just shot Santa Claus on Christmas.

As much as I love Disney I kinda feel the same way that everybody else does about 'Beauty and the Beast'. The original one was fantastic. The DTV sequels... ehh they're not for everyone but the REMAKE well I say that it's good for what it is but as a comparison to the original... WTF?!OK let's start with the casting. Emma Watson as Belle. Emma Watson + Disney=No way man. She just was NOT Belle to me she was Hermione Granger cosplaying as Belle. Olaf as LeFou?! I'm sorry but you're in the wrong movie Olaf. In a word the casting was just a miss.Secondly the songs. I'm not gonna comment on the old songs much but I will say this. The 'Be Our Guest' sequence was incredible. It was like seeing the film on a Broadway show and I've never seen the play. The real meat and potatoes however was two of the newer songs 'Evermore' and 'How Does a Moment Last For Ever'. 'Evermore' because of the fact that it was a song for the Beast to sing and 'How Does a Moment Last For Ever' because it was Celine Dion's newest song and hey I've gotta give credit to her because it was her first song she had sung since the deaths of her husband and brother. Well done Celine.Thirdly I liked the way they made a backstory for the two main central characters. But as a whole the movie didn't really add anything special. It'd have been better if it was a live-action sequel rather than a live-action remake. In conclusion the original animated classic gets a 100/100 whereas the remake gets a 50/100.

Hi. I am many years in the future, and this video really aged so poorly. This movie did not build upon the Revival Age, it was part of a money making machine. People were gushing about this movie when it was announced, and it had a reception that was pretty positive, with some not gravitating to it well. Now people barely ever talk about it and see it as a movie that did a lot of things wrong that the original movie did right.

Maybe it's because the Beauty and the Beast remake came and passed, that I've trouble taking your channel seriously when you act like it was so wonderful. You don't really say so in the video but I assume you didn't watch it yet when you made this. Now the trailers did nothing for me personally so I'm confused even more so on how anyone was so excited about it. And after watching it... Eek. Sure it's watchable. But Emma Watson singing cannot possibly match the singing of the original. Everything that was added that's supposed to be so much better is not. Her Cottage being in the middle of the town was the weirdest thing. It felt like a stage play, when I thought the Remake was supposed to bring some grand realism. That was such a beautiful shot in the original animation of her walking to town and having such a cute and modest home in the background separate from this dirty and hectic town. Now I'm going to give their other remakes a chance when they eventually come on Netflix, which I'm sure they will like the others did, but I don't understand how anyone can be super excited about live-action remakes of 10/10 animations. In my opinion remakes are best suited for films that couldn't capture the essencse of the tales at the time of their creation. Such as a film that couldn't be larger than life because it couldn't be made that way, even though you really wish it could have. Like when Wizard of Oz was remade (what was it 14-17 years later?) because now they could do it in technicolor. Like The Fly remake cuz now they had the special effects to make the monster as gruesome as it need to be. Today's technology is so amazing and you can really do that for films that were mediocre at best before. In my opinion Disney is shooting itself in the foot with these because there's no way you can measure up to near perfection plus nostalgia.

Yeah... No sorry I live the animation quality of this Disney Revival era but the stories told like Moans and especially Frozen are so boring. I have NEVER fallen asleep in any Disney movie I watched UNTILL... Frozen!! It was bland and wasn't epic or timeless like say The Little Mermaid or Aladdin. The songs be boring and easily got annoying hearing it over and over, u know like "Let it Go"? I hate that damn song so much I sang version of it I made up whenever someone else started on it hust to mock it. But I never get tired of "Part of this World" "Prince Ali"... Hell I still know the lyrics. Nothing now comes anywhere close to those days.
