The reason this chase sequence works so well? Not just the awesome stunts and masterful directing and editing. It stands apart because it's a beautifully WRITTEN piece. What other cinematic chase contains such memorable dialogue, character introduction and development, and spot-on humor? Today's writers and directors need to study this sequence. Comparatively, they've got nuthin'.

@rmstitanic8163 Жыл бұрын
@@stevehaller6332 But it could be argued that Sean Connery wasn't the original first choice as James Bond. There was a number of actors that were considered before him, including Roger Moore. I know what you are saying. You kind of get used to a certain person playing a roll. But had James Bond not been offered to other actors after Sean Connery walked away from the part, then James Bond would have just ended. However, I'm worried about where they are going with the 007 roll in the future. I don't think it was a good idea to kill him off. Really stupid idea. And I don't like what I'm hearing about making him a different character just to fit in with modern day woke. If you change him, he is no longer James Bond. They have considered making a woman, black, gay, trans and God knows what else. Absolutely wrong. Ian Fleming I'm sure would be totally pissed off had he'd still been alive.

The first things to be filmed for the movie was all the boat stuff so when they arrived in Louisiana in early 1973 the director had Roger begin to familiarize himself with the boats as he did most all the driving except obviously for the jumps. When he got into the jet boat there's a scene where he's going straight at speed then the bayou turns and with a jet you have to keep power in the turn or else it won't turn. Roger got in a little hot and instinctively pulled back on the throttle which is what you can't do so he ended up going straight and colliding with the dock and boathouse where some of the crew was. It was a hell of a collision and he was injured and took a couple weeks to recover. Luckily the first few weeks was filming all the boat scenes with minimal or no dialouge so although he was hurting, he got through it. I think the first scene filmed where he actually said anything was when he was idling in the marina and maybe says Hello Felix.

I was just in junior high when they filmed this in my hometown of Slidell, Louisiana but now they have overpopulated the area and it's just not the same. Knew about the filming cause the car stop was on my dad's way to work in East New Orleans and he told us about it. They make it look like it's all in the same place but they actually filmed the boat scene in different area of the city. Always loved the boat scene.

The winding scenic scenes, the swimming pool and the wedding scene all in Bayou Liberty and still much the same. The scene where he's in jetboat and it slides across the highway that's on LA 433 between I-10 and US 90 but it's changed a lot with the flood control and levee. Where they bust through the line of boats was Carr Dr and US 11. The jump scene was filmed south of NOLA in Phoenix, LA. 😎

@@thud9797 Bayou Liberty not really the same, the bridge is all new but I have pictures of the old one. My sister was almost in the wedding scene, she knew most of the people in the scene. The boat scenes always fun since I know the area well.

I think the reason why some people like J.W. Pepper is because he doesn't do anything insanely stupid. In fact, he had caught one of the bad guys until Bond and the henchmen interfered. If Sheriff Pepper had done something that would have undercut Bond, he would definately had been a more hated character.
@davidw.27914 жыл бұрын
And it’s darkly funny how he just orders the guy to put his hands on the car (so he can be cuffed) even though he clearly reached in his shirt for a gun. Police have killed people over much less and still do today.
@davidw.27914 жыл бұрын
Oh and Pepper *did* undercut Bond: He shot Bond’s speedboat right in the gas tank 2:55.

@@davidw.2791 Now wait a minute. You jump a boat at a cop and expect the cops to NOT shoot at you?
@davidw.27914 жыл бұрын
ActionCom That wasn’t even a premeditated shoot. JW fucks Bond’s mission over purely by accident.
@actioncom27484 жыл бұрын
@@davidw.2791 I disagree. J W Pepper holstered his weapon before the boats arrived. He had to pull his gun out and point it before he fired. Which means it wasn't an accident.

I saw this at the cinema back in the days of when Bond was Bond and this scene with J. W mesmorised me . I have yet to see another scene in any film that captures the moment nor the period as well as Clifton James did . In fact he stormed the Bond stage in both films .
