Beautiful Churchyard.There are some really old and interesting graves in here.And what gorgeous views all around.The graves are very close in some places too.Those plastic thing are not for lightening.As if they were they would be made of metal.Those are to stop birds roosting on there and helps to save the headstone .The mess the birds make is very acidic and can burn into the marble taking away the surface then eating into it..thanks for taking us along..Love n Light 🥰

Thanks for the views of the beautiful Baltinglass countryside, Sue. I couldn't watch the live as it was around 3am down here. Some of those graves in the newer section are so close together that I can't see how visitors can get access to tend to them. I pushed the pause button to take in the detail on the Celtic high cross.

Thank you so much for this live video, which I missed as usual through the time difference here in Queensland Australia. I did a bit of reading up again of this area..... Birdwatch Ireland in Baltinglass Co. Wicklow have built Swift nest boxes into the Bell Tower of St Joseph's Convent building in Baltinglass. This explains the spikes being being on some headstones as other breeds of birds would then accumulate around the cemetery all trying to nest near by or rest for the Autumn/Winter, causing erosion on stones. I also found there was a lot of history going back in this part to well before the Emancipation. The bell tower you showed us was once part of a castle, the bell was still used to call everyone to Mass after the demise of tge Castle as the tower was a fare way away from the Church, thus not braking any laws. I just Googled ' bell tower, Baltinglass, Ireland'. I loved all the beautiful Celtic crosses and the one with the Celtic knotwork is truly gorgeous. You did so well reading out so many names while climbing that steep hill, well done and thank you so much Sue. 💕🇦🇺

There are old-wife-tales about iron pins being put on top of higher gravestones to ensure the dead are at peace. Since the soul/spirit has left the body, that practice would be somewhat pagan in origin. I prefer to think of them as lightning rods. I just love the simple elegance of the Celtic Cross.
