Yep, the original US Greenie of Black Sabbath S/T sounds quite good! I have a 2010 analog pressing done by Ron McMaster, who I normally don't care for, that actually is pretty damn close to the sound of the original (of course with all the other Sabbath albums I was able to track down really nice, clean copies of all the WWA UK pressings that used the original Vertigo plates 😁 - BTW, if you want one of THE best sounding pressings of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, a guy on the Steve Hoffman Forums turned me on to the 1st Japanese pressing, which indeed does sound great!)

Oh yeah! The original US pressing of The Cult Electric sounds fantastic! It is beautifully mastered and a DMM pressing. Oddly though, the 1st US pressing of The Cult Love sucks. You need the 1st UK pressing of that one.

Great panel & topics. Erasure's Chorus & New Order's Technique (each help set the bar for EDM & post punk, respectively, in the 90s and beyond) were underplayed but now in more regular rotation for me. I have NM og copies of Byrds' Greatest & Buffalo Springfield Retrospective (talk about cheap 🔥) ...both of these are all I need for early Americana / Folk Rock (one could argue both a re early alt country at times) fix and after watching this session I will have them on more regular rotation

Steve. I'm undertaking the biggest move of my life, part of which involves re-packing LPs that have been stored in boxes for more than 15 years. I unearthed new and secondhand gems I'd forgotten about entirely (a peril of working two or three jobs at a time when I had the energy). Lots of 'wow, when did I get this?' moments. One pleasant surprise: a sealed copy of the 30th anniversary of DSOTM. I vaguely recall buying this at HMV when it came out, but for the life of me can't recall what the hell possessd me to buy it!

Wow. Nice find. Will you eventually unseal it?
@onsenkuma19798 ай бұрын
@@stevewestman7774 Yeah, I was kind of surprised! Like most of us, I have multiple copies of this album, and everything I have is mint or NM condition. Once I've settled into my new digs I plan to put everything on shelves (it'll be tight but I'll finally have room), and then weed out duplicates and things I can no longer justify (including 'what was I thinking?' purchases). Discogs, eBay? One way or the other I'll be unloading A LOT of records before year's end. BTW: Audiophile Roundtable has quickly become an absolute go-to channel. Congratulations and thanks for what you're doing...

Just to report back... I don't know if Josh reads these comments, but I am just now listening to the new Tiny Music... and frigg'n *WOW!!!* Guys, does it sound F'n fantastic on my system (feel free to check the link to my Soundroom System & Collections under one of my videos) I mean, WOW again! I bought this sight unseen thanks to our dear Josh here... 🙄 But, seriously, the sound quality is absolutely stunning! I don't know how many different ways to say it. It is not the slightest bright at all, goes really low (I'm always surprised at how low my 2-15" open baffle dipole biamped woofers go!) So, a BIG 'Thank You' to Josh getting me to look for a version. Bro... If you like the original pressing that much, I'm really strongly suggesting you should check this one out, and then if you could do a comparison that would be awesome! I'm probably gonna try to sell the CDs since I don't do those, but the vinyl is F****'n OUTSTANDING! 😁

Yes, Cult Electric Canadian press. Neko Case-Fox Confessor (Sounds Canadian)don’t have a great GZ, Europe or Memphis. Not saying it’s not possible-Just haven’t heard one yet? Would love any tips? Most of my cassettes from the 80’s still sound great. Full Moon is amazing sounding as is Wildflowers. Love your series. Last thought…really this time The B-52’s self titled.

Good theme Steve! Actually, Along with your theme, just the other day I dragged out the original US Purple translucent vinyl pressing of the Stone Temple Pilots album Purple which I probably have not played in over 20 years. And WOW, considering that many albums pressed at that time don't sound very good, this li'l puppy sounded bloody amazing! I won't need even to consider the upcoming Atlantic 75 2-45 pressing because this original sounds so damn good! But, I will say that the Atlantic 75 2-45 of Core which I just got does sound great, I don't have another vinyl pressing of that one. ***EDIT Actually Josh, on my system if you really crank up the Purple vinyl translucent pressing it DOES indeed sound quite dynamic and the drums frigg'n thunder! BUT... you really hafta crank it loud. I also made the same mistake when I first put it on I thought it sounded terrible. I was going to sell it (it goes for $125+) but I thought I'd give it another go, and the 2nd listen on another day I really cranked it and WOW did that make a difference! So, don't dismiss the original translucent purple pressing of Purple to quickly...

A/B it with the original CD. It’s surprising the difference at any volume…

@@hi-fidelityrecords Maybe you just got a 'bad' one... I think that happened to me with one of the Classic Records Zeppelin albums. I just happened to buy 3 of them when they came out (not knowing what the hell I was doing) I got I, V, & VII. And all 3 sound great. So, I was anxious to grab IV, and I happened to get a good deal from a member of the Steve Hoffman Forums. BUT... when I played it, I was quite dismayed at how bland it sounded. I compared it to my early Porky/Pecko and it blew the Classic away. I went ahead and sold it to another member (for $135, now it is worth at least twice that! 😁) But, the point being is that many swear by the Classic Records IV, but my copy honestly did NOT sound good at all. So, I'm thinking maybe that's what happened with your 1st pressing copy of Purple, because mine is sounding pretty damn good! 😀 (for comparison, I had bought the recent Walmart Red/Black vinyl Core and it sounded bloody *AWFUL!* Compressed and as flat as Hell! I couldn't return it fast enough - Of course the Atlantic 2-45 set sounds absolutely stunning!) So, it's not like my system doesn't reveal differences in resolution and sound quality. Again, as I have mentioned before, I run two multi-driver tall open baffle dipole line arrays with 13 drivers a side driven by an Ayon Orion II all tube Class 'A' amp, biamped with a Crown 2502 driving 2-15" open baffle dipole woofers. So, depth, dynamics and a very large soundstage honestly reveal even subtle differences in pressings (thus why a number of the 1/2 speed Abbey Road pressings have sounded rather flat and unengaging compared to originals)

@@hi-fidelityrecords Hey Josh! Actually, you know I think you are right about this Purple 1st pressing 😕 It's true when I super duper cranked it up, I guess I was just pleased that no matter how loud I turned it, it never sounded bright. BUT... at the same time, I did another careful listen today, and yeah, it is fairly muddled overall sadly. So, thought I should come back and adjust my initial impression. Well... Atlantic 75 2-45 here we come! 😁 But, the new Tiny Music is indeed pretty damn B*tch'n!

Both 80’s and 90s need way more audiophile pressings, focus is predominantly 60s and 70s; maybe that’s just a function of people running the organisations. Expecting this to change over the next 5 years.

Heh heh... Once again I am with Patrick on the RUSH albums. The 1st JAMF pressings either Canadian or US of 2112 and A Farewell to Kings sound better than the DMM remasters. The only DMM remasters that I heard and compared that I liked better were Pressure/Grace (just barely edged out the original) and Presto which tamed down the very bright original. Otherwise though...
