Yep, I have the CBS 1/2 speed master of Abraxas. I did a comparison with the recent Kevin Gray, and we all KNOW how great he is, and it absolutely *BLEW* the KG away by orders of magnitude! I mean, NO bloody comparison! As a matter of fact, I hadn't taken that album out and listened to it for probably over 20 years and it sounded SO damn good, excellent soundstage and beautifully separated and presented, right then and there I thought, forget the overpriced 1-Step this one sounds bloody amazing!

Love CBS Abraxas cut too. Sounds incredible.

@@stevewestman7774Honestly, since it had been so long since I'd heard it, when I played it right after the Kevin Gray I actually yelled out loud, WOW! The soundstage, especially on my tall multi-driver open baffle dipole line arrays with 13 drivers a side, just frigg'n *EXPLODED* in every direction, I'm not kidding, I was F'n impressed! At that point, I TOTALLY stopped thinking about the MFSL 1-Step at all 😁

I love that they are releasing quad mixes on CD, but why not LP? I really like the different mixes on vinyl even though I don’t have a quad setup anymore and own a few LPs. The value on most isn’t usually greater than $50, although there are exceptions like DSOTM, Band on the Run and Imagine.

SACD player tip. I scored a 2004 era Pioneer Elite DVD player last year from a neighborhood yard sale for just $10 that sounds incredible. It plays CDs, SACDs and burned discs. It even features Burr/Brown DACs. Shortly thereafter, I had a customer at my record store trade in an OPPO player, so I took it home to A/B it against the Pioneer. I had two copies of Natalie Merchant’s Tigerlily, so I used those for reference. The Pioneer sounded better on every track. It also booted considerably faster and the remote is better than the OPPO’s.

Jan Hammer is one of THE greatest keyboardists ever! He played with Mahavishnu Orchestra, and with a lot of Prog people, and his solo albums are excellent. The guy played exactly like a super shredding guitarist, absolutely F'n amazing!

@@bigsweetc6 in my opinion, since we know there is a digital step, it is a natural logical step to go to repressing them, as long as there is demand for them. When the news came out last year, I was actually excited.

I also have that Jeff Beck 2-45 AP Wired, and yes, it does indeed sound phenomenal! The 2-45 AP of Herbie's Head Hunters is also pretty damn stunning! Heh, as well as the 2-45 Ted Nugent S/T and of course the SRV, got me started there... 😁

The Joerg Kessler cut of Abraxas is the way to go, a true all analog cut with great dynamics. As for the S&G BOTW the best way to go is the Sundazed press cut by Kevin Gray and pressed at QRP. and cheaper than the Suprevinyl MFSL.

Swedish producers, DIY, gazillion hybrid genres, singles streaming, & that anyone can sell riffs/beats/bass clips for artists are perhaps but a few factors in shaping today's music? Great stream - but the REAL question this week is --> Atlantic 75 STP Core 45 AAA...did you get it (I DID WOW)?

I don't understand recording technology. When a DSD tape is run thru an analog console and then to the lathe, is the end result going to be an analog vinyl album? Or is this the infamous "one step"?

Heh, the only Classic Records Zeppelin I have are the two you showed, 5 & 7, along with 1. They all do indeed sound very good. I had IV but I felt that my early Porky/Pecko was a HELL of a lot better! Sold it 😁 Of course, that was a few years ago, now the li'l bugger is worth 2 to 3 times the $145 I got for it... 😕

(still catching up after Berlin) Bridge Over Troubled Water on super vinyl? I found a Columbia 2 eye copy a couple of years ago ,which cost me £8 in the UK and it sounds great (Canadian pressing btw). Would I buy a MOFI super vinyl of it? I don't think so. As George would say ' Cost Effective! There must be loads of clean BOTW copies out there, going cheap, that might put people off buying super expensive vinyl. Santana Abraxas though, different kettle of fish as there won't so many original clean copies. Even though I have a Uk -1/-1 that sounds great, I might just buy a MOFI 33rpm super vinyl 🙂
