My stepfather was educated at the Jones Academy Indian school in Oklahoma and his sister was at Chilocco Indian School in Oklahoma. I heard the horror stories about the abuse the endured and torture. They was not even allowed to speak their native language, and if they did they was beaten.

I have to give Biden credit for the accountability he is showing for the actions of the USA practices on the Native Nation. It's the only way to go forward. It doesn't erase it, but it helps to go forward. Hope they will keep their promise to the Indigenous. It was about time. We, as a nation, need to make our government officials look like the tapestry that we are. Can't knock Biden for this healing gesture.

He is not running for office and his time grows shorter each day... This seemed to be important to him and Dr.Biden if she herself has made ten trips. Also the first indigenous cabinet appointee ever in his administration. I'm old, I don't remember hearing any formal apologies for much of anything in my years. This is something that I see as a positive starting point. Nothing erases what has happened in the past, nor should we forget or write things out of our history books like is happening in my home state of Florida under republican leadership. Remember our former president and his disrespect to the Navajo Code Talkers in the White House. Making them stand in front of a portrait of Andrew Jackson and making jokes about Sen Warren being called "Pocahontas"...Many Cherokee to this day do not accept 20$ bills because it bears Jacksons image. It was to be replaced with Harriet Tubman, however our former president stalled the project. So if this a political moment, for me, I will vote against the ones that have shown what they are in their own actions...Harris has yet had the opportunity to exhibit her deeds good or bad as president.
