Great diy idea! You will need more coarse substrate so that it cuts worms when you stir. I run black worm cultures on alfagrog now, previously I used lava rock with great results

This is just what I needed to see. You get a couple weeks out of them in the fridge? The shop told me a few days so I was afraid to use them after that for fear they had gone bad. Change the water every day? I definitely want to culture them. Thanks for this

I buy them fairly regularly and normally either throw in tanks immediately or keep them in the fridge - I don't know how long they would last in the fridge but I've normally used up my supply at about 2 weeks, and they definitely last that long no problems

@@AquariumAdventures thanks Graeme, do you change out the water when they’re in the fridge? Mine come in just a condiment container, so small, I change the water every day. Now that I know they last longer, I’ll use a bigger container. Do you poor some water off the top and refresh when you keep them in the fridge? Thanks much. There is a product they sell to keep them in when in the fridge that is supposed to help them last, but it doesn’t sound necessary. I can search for it if anyone is interested.

Nice one G. I cut up wee cubes of course filter foam and drop them in with the worm cultures. It makes harvesting and feeding really easy and gives the fish a little more of a challenge eating the worms that hide in the wee cubes of sponge. The worms seem to be naturally drawn to occupying the cubes of sponge and it’s really easy to access/replace/rotate. Cheers bud, aw the best 👍

They love eating Indian almond leaves 🍂 I had them in a tub with no heater no filter no substrate and they kept breeding. I just toped up with tank water

The average cost of water in the UK is about 0.1p per litre - at the rate I've got it running I doubt it would cost me 1penny per day. However - I might not run it 24/7, or might change it up in future to run on a sump with a filter in it.
