This is a blitz chess game I played against a random opponent who was selected from the ChessNetwork Cafe on ChessCube. The game was livestreamed at www.twitch.tv/ChessNetwork. Time controls are set at 5 minutes per player.

I get asked to play often. When I have the time and energy for livestreaming, it's then that I play against random opponents in the CN Cafe.

He picks his opponents randomly, and these games are intended to teach the opponent (which is why he always looks to help them after each game), so they are the ones who are looking for a better player (him).

At 7:12 I feel that Qa1 is a really good move. The knee jerk reaction would be b5, but you could just take it since the A pawn is pinned. Also if black blocks with anything, you can throw the bishop on the attack too, again exploiting that pin. Maybe the best move in reply would be Ke7.

These videos were recorded in April. He can't change that now. He'll continue uploading these videos until he catches up with himself in terms of upload dates. Deal with it people. Please.

to see that you are going to be up after taking a pawn with a bishop is awesome... this might have to be my favorite game thus far....(out of 105) closely followed by another game u played in the 90s (probably 97) it look as if u were going to lose but time got the best of the opponent and naturally you took advantage of it...

At 6:58 white should play Qa4+. If black defense with Nbd7, white can trade knights and after the queen takes on d7 white has the great move Bb5!

Jerry doesn't pick the players by rating, he does it randomly, to give everyone a chance. Yeah it's a little bit like a school kid going a round with Tyson, but that kid gets a free boxing lesson, as do we the spectators. There's still plenty to be learned from the lower rated videos, and there are plenty of higher rated ones too. Also I'm not so sure Jerry doesn't 'accidentally' let his time run down when explaining the moves, which gives them a fighting chance.

He's playing against people who watch his stream - it's all random. There, obviously, tend to be a lot more lower rated players, so games are more likely to be against lower leveled players. And to you, Jerry, keep doing what you're doing, please! I played a round early on against you last night and learned a few things after making a few bad moves and losing. I wish I knew the Sicilian better, haha.

I still love Jerry's videos because of how much I learned. However, Jerry needs to play stronger players now. Win or lose Jerry, we love you.

I believe the way he does it is that he posts all the games that were close or had proper play early on (or some other such thing), and there was just a mistake, rather than heavy blunders or some such. I may be wrong, though!

Well, in Chess ratings aren't really that important, because someone who is 1900 can easily challenge someone who is 2500. But there is a learning curb that is evident, most people who aren't 1600 tend to not plan ahead too far, or move pieces to see what comes of it. 1600-1800 tend to play decently, and 1900+ actually know what they're doing. Yes, these are supposed to be educational, but you don't learn from someone that plays below adequate.

You can see Jerry lose lots of times during warzone tournaments :) I kind of like it to see opponents that are at a level like the most of us. Personally I think you learn a lot more from mistakes these 1500 players make than the more tactical play higher rated players play. Also his opponents are picked at random so just wait and see...

yes agreed, I love these videos a lot but I think a great change up would be if you post videos playing against stronger players even higher rated than yourself

god these comments are pointless. he's playing RANDOM people, and teaching these players how to play. Morphy used to do that, I doubt anyone went up to Morphy and said "hey y u play noobs?!!1" he's helping people with their chess for free, and besides, Jerry certainly plays a lot of on-his-level guys each day.

its still useful to see how jerry exploit suboptimal opening moves. i love how jerry talks too much in the beginning to explain ideas and plays extremely slow, and when the game reaches time trouble he starts playing super fast..an interesting idea for the opponents would be to keep playing reasonably well to survive long enough to flag jerry..:P

At 9:25, if the king moved to any other square except d6, after knight takes rook, a bishop check on b4 would've been mate... right?

he can't play an opponent who's just as good as him or better and still give instructive commentary.. i still agree with redxelf though, i want to see a few games where you're the underdog jerry! then maybe you can comment afterwards instead of live commentary.

People just don't understand these videos. theyr are supposed to be instructional and educational. If you have too equally strong players playing blitz seriously, there is really not room for instructional commentary, that's for sure.

jerry, I really like your vids and all, but do you have do play players with such a low rating? no offence to them, but it's almost a toss up on whos gonna win when you face a player rated mid 1500's, you even said that you can learn a lot more about chess when you go up against players that are as good/better than you. still love the vids though Jerry!

Right, but Jerry could easily just pretend the number of a lower-rated opponent was the correct number... Don't you think it's suspicious how many times he plays that oni guy in Chess 960? Jerry has stated before that he really enjoys playing Chess 960, maybe Oni just happens to guess the number so Jerry can play chess 960.
