@SouthernRotors These launches are a good way to get money from fools who have more money than they should. Also, there is still a scientific need for data from suborbital flights. New Shepherd and several rockets that fly from Wallops in North Carolina do that job.

It makes more sense to view New Shepherd as a test bed for New Glenn flight hardware and just getting the data for these flights and booster landings nailed, while also making some tourism cash to support the test program itself. Kinda smart.

This is about half the height 59ft versus 106ft. And yet they only landed this thing successfully for the first time in 2021. They are behind for sure, if they can pull off a New Glenn landing early on they will have caught up but don't expect that.

@@SouthernRotorsI had to check the name but I was going to say that the engines have been tested by Boeing , er, ULA on Vulture, er, Vulcan. Seriously it will be good to have another heavy payload launch provider. SpaceX will never be able to support a healthy orbital and lunar economy alone. Twice or three times a year from ULA isn't even a start. Rocket Lab is approaching a capability to launch replacement for orbital assets on demand but I don't see Neutron any time soon.
@SouthernRotors
@SouthernRotors 2 күн бұрын
@@MarkHorton-n3t I'm hoping ULA will be purchased by Sierra Space in the near term, that would be such a big move for them as they roll out their test space station/s and they could use Vulcan to deploy Dreamchaser. The truth is that all of these launch systems have a place so I wish them all the best.

This rocket will never reach orbit. But the New Glenn that they talked about launching soon will. The New Shepherd was their first step in rocket development, never meant to reach orbit. But the New Glenn has been their rocket to achieve or it with heavy loads. So BO made a huge step from their first to second rocket. We will soon see New Glenn and it's abilities soon.

@@JEBavido It has been a long time waiting. I was quite surprised by this public broadcast of New Shepard. BO has never been very open on anything before, so this launch being made public really took me by surprise. I was more surprised that there wasn't a second backup New Shepard waiting when the first one failed. Hopefully if the first New Glenn is successful, there will be more sooner than this. If course, motors may be a problem with BO having a contract with ULA to supply motors for their new rocket, which may of just received a go ahead from Space Force after their first flight.
