Can you share the book club titles in advance? It's very difficult to get the book and read it within the week. The books are not always available at the library, and, if buying, the book doesn't ship that quickly. Thanks

This book has been on my list for a while , downloaded. This will motivate me to start it .

27:58 The "90-second emotion" concept primarily comes from the work of Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor, a Harvard brain scientist, who explains that when someone reacts to something in their environment, a chemical process in the body lasts around 90 seconds, after which any continued emotional response is a result of conscious thought rather than the initial physiological reaction; essentially, the body's initial response to a trigger will naturally subside within 90 seconds, allowing for conscious choice to maintain or release the emotion. I have used this rule many times, and it has absolutely worked for me. Admittedly, I have not thought to use it during anything life altering, but as a daily tool it is very useful

I agree with David about the emotions abate in 90 seconds thing. I have tried to count to ten, take a moment, ride the wave… and in the meantime, gotten angrier and angrier.

Thank you for sharing your story. While I’m not a therapist, nor do I play one on TV, due to childhood trauma I always want to help people (If I’m honest, I’m trying to rescue them from themselves) and it always backfires. Now that I understand why I do it (years of therapy) I’m much better at recognizing the flags. Not perfect by any means, I just ended an engagement with a man that I was with for four years; because in the end, I wanted it more than he wanted to change. 57:44

I loved Gabor Maté's books... Hold on to your kids was great, in the realm of hungry ghosts gave me a whole new outlook on addiction, the myth of normal was super excellent. Also, PS, I think we have very similar book lists! 💛 I've also read Stolen Focus and Counting the Cost. 🙂

I agree with David about her being the best of the self-help gurus, who I usually don’t like either. Saying that, this is the first book that I bought and actually read. I bought it because I watched a few podcasts about it, including mayim baylik. And i really need to apply this in a challenging relationship. It has been useful in day to day life, I will have to be intentional the next time I am with this person.

That Mayim interview is why I read it! 🙂👍🏼

I have to workout time difference (western Australia ). Also can you give a list of books into that are coming up because in rual Australia takes longer to get anything. Also I don't know how others are for time but I struggle to do a whole.book in a week with my.other commitments. I'm still listening to the last book as I couldn't get a printed copy in time

11:25 Agree! This is nothing new, it’s just the same idea that hundreds of other therapists, gurus, religions and new age thinking that has been around for decades / centuries, have touted. Mel Robbins has just marketed it better with a literal tagline of let them.

I listen to audiobooks exclusively. Lol. This book was excellent and the adult friendships chapter and the one about all sorts of relationships, I think ch 18 was also great. My kids (elem and mid) also listened to that chapter and thought it was great.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate Mel Robbins work to bring big complex ideas to the masses. I think part of "Let Them" missed the mark. Robbins advocates for repairing relationships which I agree to up to a point. Robbins states a few factors that don't deserve the "Let them" approach such as you having to clearly state boundaries and once that is done if they are crossed you are done with "Letting them". I would like to know David's take on that. Do we all have to run around stating all our boundaries to people in our primary social groups? Are not some things just socially unacceptable and would warrant you not letting people just do potentially deviant actions?

Life changing books 1, The Secret by Rhonda Byrne 2, The Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins 3, The Untethered Soul by Michael Singer We all know on a soul level that we can’t control other people‘s thoughts and actions. The let them theory brings our ego back into check because for some reason we’ve been under the delusion that we can influence other people’s thoughts and actions. The book will help you find your serenity. ❤❤❤❤❤🇨🇦❤❤❤❤❤

So we’re doing 0 research on these self-help gurus still 🤦🏻♀️ she plagiarized a viral poem by Cassie Phillips. She is a lying, self-obsessed, loves to exaggerate grifter like the rest of them. I also find it funny and very telling that she says she co-wrote it with her daughter (which I don’t believe), but won’t put her daughter’s name on the book…classic narc
