Absolutely amazing!!! I’m not deaf but I have a lot of issues with understanding what people are saying right away, especially when speaking a little quicker. I always have subtitles on and I’ve always said “why can’t we have subtitles for real life?” And these people have made that possible!! So incredibly cool

I'm not a native English speaker, but I use English subtitles when I can. Simply because I might miss something otherwise. Incidentally, it is a great way of learning a language.

If KZbin captions are comparable to what these glasses do, their users are going to see some bizarrely distorted things being said to them.

surprisingly, YT's captioning has improved hugely over the past few years compared to the time where just making a video, and then remaking that same video with the captioning replacing the script was really funny!

KZbin's captions are 100% better than on tv. Ch4 and 5 are the worse captions of all. I actually think the person typing them (or who programmed the machine) must be deaf too as words typed can be similar to how I mishear things. (I have 2 hearing aids)

@@jenniriley482 also, many people don't realize that not all KZbin captions aren't automated. If it says "English (auto-translated)" those are automated. If just "English", then it was uploaded by the user, which are quite often done professionally on big channels such as Dr. Mike

This is a good start to this advanced technology for hearing-impaired community. But the issue is with voice interpretation. How the voice works with identifying words. Many voices have different tones so it may not be well-versed with different speech. Just my thought.

Yeah this isn't new tech, especially for this application similar systems have existed in very high tech, high cost variants, and there have been stuff like in esr translators and aids with a digital component to them for a long time. But the innovation here I assume is the price of commodotisation which will help bring the price down. Its a good way to make tech like smart glasses affordable, first reach out to markets such as the deaf where there is an invaluable application to bring costs down across the board, and it helps people everywhere. You can see they're already branching it out at the end of the video to translation.

@__Andrew
@__Andrew Жыл бұрын
@@blueturtle3623 These glasses just run off a subtitle/caption app on your phone, all they are is a display to put the words in your eye line. Iv messed around with the Android subtitle app and a few others online and they i would say are about 95-98% accurate. And even the hiccups they have you can spot them (as the words do not belong to the flow of the conversation) and wouldn't detract all that much from being able to hold a conversation. Add to that if you are talking with people that KNOW someone is using the app people will (hopefully) speak more clearly to help out, making the subtitle program work better. Its like when i use my google speech commands; if i quickly say what i want to say it might mess a word up, but if i slow down and speak clearly it catches everything i ask it. Plus of course live caption programs are getting better every day. Also i legit just placed my phone on the table in front of me and spoke out what i had written all above, and it captured all of it with the exception of a few punctuation errors like run on sentences.
@gypsygem9395

@@__Andrew I think what @Blue Turtle is saying, is that apps like Live Transcribe (which was supposed to do the same thing as these glasses but on your phone screen) are nowhere near accurate. I struggle to even use it on my phone, it's not worth the hassle. If these glasses are no better than an app specifically promoted as being useful for Deaf people, then they too would be useless. All I want is an app that works as advertised, i.e. accurately. If that happened, these glasses wouldn't be necessary.

No disrespect to the creators, but if they can make an app that is accurate at transcribing, why would we need to read the words in sunglasses? I'd far rather read it on my phone. I guess it means we can appear to be looking at the speaker, but maybe that's why they're sunglasses - because we really wouldn't be looking at the speaker, we'd be looking at the words! Qualifier - I'm profoundly deaf
