Welcome to Morelia! My wife and I moved here almost four years ago from Colorado, USA. Like you, we enjoy not seeing expats very often. Morelia has been very good to us and we plan to live here a long, long time. Great food, wonderful people, affordable cost of living, and beautiful weather!

I hear for a nice place in El Centro, 2 bed, 2 bath, furnished, that would be about 14,000 pesos a month. I have a 2 bath, 1 bed, furnished for 8900 pesos a month.

I'm really excited to see you in Morelia. We're in the Lake Chapala area and are going to check out Morelia coming up this winter to see about moving out of the gringo bubble. Ajijic/SAT have been a great landing spot, but we've been here just over a year, and I think early next year we'll be ready to move into a more affordable area. I believe Morelia will fit the bill. I look forward to more of your videos.

Glad that you’re settling in but why are you so pleased to find that there are no expats in Morelia? I had many Mexican and other Latino friends as a student in GDL, but there was a real camaraderie amongst the Americans who came to get their medical education at the UAG. I would have guessed that you felt the same camaraderie toward retired expats. I am continuing to make progress here on the move to PA. Saludos !

@@BillDallasLewis After a little more thought, I think that I understand your sentiment. Not all of my fellow Americans embraced the language and culture while studying in GDL. Many kept pretty isolated and viewed their time in Mexico simply as a period that had to be tolerated. I’m sure that some of the expats you encounter are the same.

I'm glad to see that you're enjoying your new found place. I've been to Morelia and I must say that it isn't for everyone. Too cold in Winter and to far from a beach. But sure it's cathedral is beautiful and being off the tourist/expats path, it is certainly cheaper then for ex. Vallarta where rents are through roof.

Welcome to Morelia Bill, yes the Tarascan plateau is high altitude and that's what makes Morelia and other cities and towns cool and in winter probably a bit chilly, but I can't stand living in the hotlands(Tierra caliente), the few times I've gone to Vallarta or Rincon de Guayabitos(southernmost tip of Nayarit State, about an hour and a half from Vallarta), what's the use of taking a shower, you dry off, get dressed and immediately you're sweating very much. Glad you're enjoying Morelia, have you been to the zoo they have there? Its small but cool to get a glimpse of the animals. My tía Rebeca in Uruapan makes some great tasting blackberry tamales, and I'm sure they also make them in Morelia. Also recommend you go see San Juan Parangaricutirimicuaro, a small town that got "swallowed up" in the 40s and the new town nearby is called San Juan Nuevo, just on the fringe of the Tarascan plateau where you're closer to tierra caliente. Also near Uruapan and Tingambato, there is the purépecha ruins of Tzintzuntzan, not as grand or huge as Teotihuacan or Chichen Itza but just as COOL to see. Thanks for sharing,👍and 👋from Querétaro.🤠

Sound like a lovely place to live. You should make a video comparing the safety of Mexico to the US. We only hear bad things about Mexico in the states and I know it's not bad everywhere in Mexico. Do you think we're being fed negative information to keep our social security dollars at home?

Yes, the US makes Mexico look like a crime zone, but, like you said, if everyone on the US knew how safe Mexico is, then millions of Americans would move down here. Once I had a lady from Morelia we met on the beach, because she liked our dog - my dear friend from Spain joined us, so we were swimming at the beach and this lady was a Mexican tourist from Morelia visiting PV. We talked with her for a long time and we paid for her meal before we left - we wanted her to feel great vibes and enjoy her experience as a tourist. One thing I didn't like about Mazatlan was the hordes of Mexican tourist that populate the tourist areas - I found very few gringos there and liked the mix more in P.V.

Welcome to my country. Just please stop calling yourself expats. You are not an expat. You are a foreigner. There no such term as a expat here in Mexico. When I go work and live to the states for temporary employment I’v never been referred to as en expat.
