I celebrated Thanksgiving 1980 in Mexico during my first semester at the UAG. There was a lot of camaraderie amongst the American students and a large group of my classmates put together a dinner with everyone contributing a food item from back home in the US. I dare say that no one had ever cooked a turkey before this but it all turned out pretty well as I recall. A buddy, who is now a practicing cardiologist in Albany NY, created a concoction of vodka and pink lemonade which he called a “skip and go naked”. The cocktail hour made up for any shortcomings of the main dinner course. I hope that you can spend some time with new friends in Morelia on Thanksgiving and introduce them to our tradition. I have been here in Morelia for 2 weeks, and I agree with all. I have walked miles and taken the bus to Patzcuaro and used the Cambi once. Love it so far. It is my first time in Mexico in over 20 years. But it has been very friendly and easy to get around. I am here for at least 2 months, but I may extend.

Jose Guadalupe Posada Aguilar (full birth name) was born in Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes, Mexico. In Aguascalientes, the locals honor & celebrate Aguilar's art work (La Catrina) in the same manner.
