LIVE: China Bets Billions on Dollar's Decline in New US Rivalry Front | Vantage with Palki Sharma
China is opening a new front in its rivalry with the US, this time targeting the US dollar's dominance. Through its state-owned banks, China has placed over $100 billion in bets against the dollar since the last year, hoping to weaken it and strengthen the Yuan. This strategy, known as "shorting" a dollar, involves swapping a currency (Yuan, in this case) with the dollar and waiting for the dollar's value to fall over a period of time. If and when the dollar weakens, Beijing would profit on the difference. Experts believe this isn't exactly "currency warfare," but rather a defensive move by Beijing. China's Yuan has been losing value recently due to a slowing economy and increased demand for dollars. By weakening the dollar, China hopes to make the Yuan relatively stronger. However, this strategy carries risks. If the dollar continues to strengthen, Beijing could lose billions, as some estimates suggest they already have.

Tax on gasolene cars are justified, however the government is still giving around 1.5 lakh tax rebate on electric cars and bikes so why not buy electric cars. Dont come with poor electricity supply and use of coal to produce it. You can get a full solar charging plant setup for 2.10 and there will be no operational cost. think about it just dont complain.

USA has 192k ev stations and still only 8.5 percent of cars there are ev. India has around 16k. You won’t preach if you knew the numbers. You can’t just ask people to get solar panels and come up with ingenious solutions themselves when your countries nominal GDP per cap is less than 2500$

I don’t get it. If dollar value falls, say, after a year 14 dollars = 90 yuan, then the American bank will get their 14 dollars back by paying only 90 yuan and end up saving 10 yuan! So fall of dollar will hurt the Chinese bank.

What she is reporting about shorting does not make sense. Swapping is not shorting. You short by using Futures contracts. And China shorting sounds more like hedging to me. It holds 800 billion in USD govt debt. By shorting the USD by 100 billion, it can at least make up for some of the losses in case the USD falls.
