The “snook eat croakers because croakers eat snook eggs” is a common misconception but it’s completely false. Snook are broadcast spawners and they don’t know or care what happens to their eggs afterwards. As far as why Snook like eating croakers, my guess is (1) they’re attracted to the croaking sounds they make when they’re in distress and (2) they probably like the taste. The couple times I’ve caught croakers big enough to eat, they were delicious, comparable to whiting.
