You girl are something else girl, you are fantastic in the other side hustle . It is great to see you have so many other interests and do them very well. Let me get a hold of myself and get back to the table . I believe that your blade was a little dull are not a crosscut blade. As always you found a way to get it done. It looks very very nice . You be careful and stay safe.
@TheFlatlander440 Жыл бұрын
The blade you showed on the circular saw looks to be a rip saw blade where you need a crosscut blade much like the one on your mitre saw. That, and the rip blade was dull as well which didn't help. Take your time and make multiple shallow cuts instead of one deep long cut. Your finished project looked great Michelle. Cheers from snowy northern Vermont.

@brianwalker9185 Жыл бұрын
The cupping of the wood with the small saw will bind. What happens is the angle changes as you go then binds up as it hits the far side of the board. The mitre saw won't bind as it passes over the cupping. Biscuits will add a bit of strength, keeping the mitre from slipping when wieght is applied to the top. Beautiful wood. Who's a good boy...Lenny!...Horndog Nice pole.
@TheBeardedLibertarian Жыл бұрын
indeed, biscuits are key but a bitch for angle cuts, L-brackets on the underside might be genius. I was also thinking about dowels.

Table? What table? All I saw was the most amazing woman. Steve is one Lucky Bastard.
@basshunter428 Жыл бұрын
Your circular saw may have a dull blade or it may have been dropped in the past which can change the blade - deck geometry. I would recommend using the compound mitre saw anyway! A radial arm saw would also be helpful. Also, that blade isn't a crosscut blade and it lacks the set/kerf needed to remove the cut material on that cut. Nice work on the table! I don't think Santa will be stopping at your place...... remember, he sees everything! 😆

That's a rip blade on your circular saw and it does look very well used. It may be dull but you need a cross cut blade for that cross grain cut. The miter saw is definitely the way to go. This is what it was designed for.

I know that you have commented many times about how you like to be frugal and make things work that you have, but I sure hope that Santa brings you some new tools, fresh blades, and other accessories. In your boat tour video you commented that Steve’s philosophy is that, you should enjoy the fruits of your labor by spending money on things that bring you happiness. I believe that you would find greater pleasure in your building and fine woodworking projects if you had better quality tools. They will make your projects go more smoothly, more accurate, and most importantly, improve the level of safety when you are not trying to force something to work. I hope that you and Steve have a wonderful, joyful Christmas and New Year’s celebrations. Love your videos!!

Glue joints in general are dependent on surface area. One way to increase the glued surface area would be to use wood dowels across the joint. These would be internal and hidden but add a tremendous amount of strength to the joint. Just fyi for next time. Table looks nice.

1) You need to guide the saw from the rear and not from the top. 2) To do that, get your plank up higher, like on solid sawhorses or a bench, clamped down so it doesn't move. Then you can be on a level where you are guiding the saw along the straight edge rather than forcing it. 3) Use something other than a square as a straight edge so you can get clamps out of the way. The metal square is going to want to slide under the clamps, anyway. 4) Your blade is either very dull or the wrong blade. You can't use a plywood type blade on a bevel cut in thick wood. A good carbide blade is what you want. 5) You have a table saw. Cut the pieces to the overall length you need, then cut the bevels on the table saw. Your most accurate bevel will come from a table saw. A skil saw just is not the right tool. 6) The wood acts a bit like it is wet and seems to be binding on the blade. 7) Your crooked cut is happening because you are forcing it. That is also dangerous. Oops, wrote this before I watched the whole video, at the point where you asked for suggestions. Did not know you had a compound miter saw that you could tilt to 45 degrees. Even that is sketchy because your plank has a warp. That rocking will ruin your cut and bind your miter saw too. Better to flatten the wood first.

Those framing squares don't work well as a straight edge for a circular saw. If you have a long flat piece of 1/4" Masonite with nice straight edges = great for using as a saw guide. I just trimmed the bottom of a door and the extra width lets you clamp down the Masonite tight to the wood but still have lots of room for the protruding parts of the saw/motor. Wood that thick will be difficult to saw through with a 7 1/4 saw. Definitely need 10 1/4" or larger blade like on your radial arm saw.

I think your sawing problems is just the thickness of the wood! I watch a lot of word carpentry channels and they often cut half way through and flip it over and cut the other half. Clamping it is critical. Can’t move. And plane it flat so it isn’t cupping. Turned out great!! Cheers. Doug from Tsawwassen.
