Despite all the problems in the Anglican church at this present time. It will recover. Amid these troubled times, as an organist of a small parish church in the north of England. Our congregation has increased. It must not be forgot that in the average parish church on ground level. The amount off good work that is been achieved including safeguarding. No woke changing of the words of carols or hymns. With a vicar who actually gets the concerns of his flock

What on earth is that ugly podium surrounding the alter in the nave? I can truly understand that maybe some members of the clergy have walking difficulties & should be catered for, but surely a more appropriate piece of church furniture could have been designed in keeping with the magnificent architecture of the Minster. It sticks out like a sore thumb and looks more like the passport control area at Heathrow. Dismal!!!!!!

Now retired, I worked as an occupational therapist for over 30 years. When you are planning and installing access, whether retrofitting or a new construction, there are government and construction regulations that must be adhered to. Some are to do with the slope of a ramp, the width of ramps and doorways, height off the ground where hand rails must be installed etc. While the structure in question may not be aesthetically pleasing to everyone, I have no doubt it provides safety and access for those needing it. There will also be costs associated with the construction so builders and representatives from the minster would likely have met to agree on both design and cost. I hope you'll be able to look past the structure and focus on the service, beautiful music and architecture of the building.

It is incredible how all of this dressing up,the bobbing and bowing and the ceremony still exists and still has meaning for I suspect a continually diminishing number.
