Live from Cornwall asylum seeker protest in Newquay

Two protests are taking place in Cornwall about a group of asylum seekers who are being housed at the Beresford Hotel, in Newquay. Both are taking place today (Saturday, February 25) in the coastal town.
The Home Office placed the group in the hotel back in November as a temporary measure. But an anti-asylum seeker protest has now been organised.
Politicians from both the Conservative and Labour parties have condemned the protest which has been advertised on social media. Organisers however say it will be "peaceful".
Concern about the demonstration has led to the organisation of a counter-protest. CornwallLive is in Newquay today as events unfold - this is our report from the scene this morning.

What a I took from this was on one side there appears to be protesters made up of concerned people from the local community of all political persuasions, and on the other side hard left activists brought in from outside. Both sides were agreed on the plight of genuine refugees, but the activists failed to acknowledge that not all were genuine refugees, and that the unacceptable behavior of some, which at times has alleged to have been criminal, was having a detrimental affect on the local community to the point where local women and girls no longer feel safe. The protesters also had concerns whether the approach the government is taking is sustainable considering the housing shortage and the cost of living crises, which leaves people questioning where the governments priorities are. Instead the hard left activists resorted to name calling in an attempt to demonize and intimidate what are clearly no more or less than just good honest local people who feel their genuine concerns are not being taken seriously.
