I have to say that I think this is the best one so far. The musical chemistry and virtuosity is off the charts here and every song has something groundbreaking about it. This needs to go down not only in musical history but all of history itself. Absolutely mind blowing performance. Thank you Emmet and the band!!

What's so great about those Sunday nights at Emmet's place is the buzz in the room - so different from the usual jazz club and so much closer to the spirit of jazz. At one end of the scale, there have been heart-melting moments which only the most able musicianship can create, and at the other, explosions of riotous liberated joy like the the final 10 minutes of this memorable night in Harlem. What a joy to have this being sent to us across the globe - makes the world feel smaller and safer.

A lot of great musicians are going small in terms of band size these days. Understandable, but...how do you make a great trio even better? Add some Jones. Man, when standards are played like this, they never get old. It's like going back to the mountains in Colorado. They're new and beautiful every time.

21:12 Variations on Jitterbug Waltz (arr. Jean-Baptiste Arban) 😆
Coming back to this now. They do Danny Boy with quite different changes as to what I'm used to playing it as. I guess it's the more traditional way. I don't go to the minor key stuff on the B section, keep it more bluesy. There's a Cory Henry organ version that's more what I'm used to. Neat to see these different interpretations. it has a totally different feel.
