I had heard of Walter but never saw him live . One fishing trip up in Minnesota I had saw in a a local paper there that their was a huge Blues festival and he happened to be there. Damn .... he and the band, left the stage in embers ... he did a meet and greet and was as cool and humble as ever. This would of been early 2000’s it wasn’t the Duluth blues fest it was at the Iron mountain theater . It was a great show with many great players but Walter blew me away.

double whammy for me this interview Joe and Walter are my favourite current blues players guitaritsts. I came across Battle Scars (cold cold ground and Gonna live again) when i was on my death bed back in 2019, when I developed intestinal failure from 35 years of very agressive Crohns disease.,I dont have enough gut to live on. I discovered Walter purely just though browsing through Apple Music. Since being brought back from the brink being kept alive by being fed directly into my blood stream for the rest of my life and having to deal with multiple ongoing issues including having a stroke in one eye and being partially blind, a DVT in the leg that wrecked the valves so blood flow is greatly reduced, and then threat of surgery. I started to learn to play the guitar. Now Walter is a huge inspiration to me I am going to see him this year (2024 when he tours UK)

Joe’s Nerdville interviews are really great. I love them. ...enjoyed hearing about how Walter crammed all his gear into a VW Beetle as he headed from the East Coast to Los Angeles for his young career! Could relate, as it reminded me of when my husband and I loaded the contents of our entire household into our 1967 Beetle as we had to move from Navy Base to Navy Base back in the day (1969-1970). We rented cheapo furnished apartments…were young and broke, but not in Vietnam, so we were happy to be so lucky!!! Also enjoyed hearing about Bruce Springsteen before he made it big…and how writing songs was his thing. Loved how Walter could hear his mom (in his mind) telling him to just make music. Luckily, moms are/were very wise…and supportive by nature! 😊 Walter, listening to you today made my day! You are so right about doing your best and being your honest self! Important words to live by! ❤️.¸¸.☆

What a great interview. Thanks Joe! I first saw and heart Walter in Tilburg/NL perhaps 25 years ago when playing at a Jimi Hendrix tribute. Was immediately hooked to his music and live performances. Saw many of his concerts in the mean time and collected most of his recordings. I was very touched when he went through his liver disease and unbelievable recovery after that. I am happy to have witnessed a very memorable moment two years ago at the Holland International Blues Festival where Walter did an extremely impressive performance and went into heavy emotions when finishing the gig and heard the extremely rewarding response of the crowd. Tears all over the place. Thanks Walter, for all memorable music and live experiences. Hope you and you dear family will stay healthy and be around on stage soon.

Great video Joe! Love Walter Trout! Been a fan since I saw him and Coco Montoya with John Mayall on some show 30 years ago. I’ve been a gigging musician for 42 years and have played with some great people, my photo you might recognize the guitar, The Beast. Your set list was sitting under it when Bernie brought it out to the garden for me to play at his home in Tingewick UK 5 years ago. I entered a contest to record with Bernie and won out of 4000+ entries. So my wife and I flew over from upstate NY to play in the studio with Bernie, have dinner with he and Fran that evening. Bernie and Fran took us sightseeing to Oxford the next day. What a true gentleman he was, even carried a good bit of our luggage from his car to our bus back to London. As far as gigging, we did a small outdoor show last weekend and have one this Saturday. If the country doesn’t get its priorities in order I fear we will never have live shows as we knew them. Not the c19 thing I am concerned about, all the lunacy going on around us at the moment. Hopefully things will improve. I’m glad I got to play through the best times to be a guitar player, late 70’s- present.

Joe Bonamassa: Thanks for another great interview! Your interviews are beyond mere entertainment. You are creating historic documentation of important and interesting musicians. Decades from now, people will refer to these for the unique insight into these artists provided here. Priceless. Your skillful and sympathetic interview style is outstanding. Many thanks.

I saw Walter, several times, when he used to play at Perq's in Huntington Beach and was also lucky enough to have seen Canned Heat open for John Mayall, with Walter doing double duty playing lead for both of those legendary acts. The last Time I saw him was at Spaghettini's Restaurant, in Seal Beach, Ca. He played monster sets each time and was easily approachable to talk to between sets. I remember wondering why this awesome player wasn't huge at the time. Those who know of him, like us blues enthusiasts, will always rate him among the very best, like Joe is. As for our host, I have yet to see Joe in person. Can't wait until this virus goes away so that I may yet get the chance. Thanks for the incredible music, guys!

Joe has been more successful and has deservedly made huge amounts of money and I've been a fan since seeing him on Sep 26th 2006 at the Boardwalk in Sheffield. But Walter is the real deal and I have seen him many times, including through his health problems. Its so good to see him back and working and enjoying life again. One interesting point is that when Joe 1st came to the fore, his fans got into a terrible flame war with those on Walter's website. It got quite brutal at times. So glad that Joe and Walter have remained friends and I hope they can make music together again !!

I can really relate to Walter im 74 and i remember watching the Beatles on ED Sullivan show. It changed the way i thought about music they played there on music and wrote there on songs. They where not fake they where real.I remember Jane Pauley doing a peace way back when i thought at the time this kid is really cool. Then you kinda left my mind .I have most of Eric Clapton's guitar festivals dvd s.I remember watching three guys doing Going down and one of them was you i said i think that is that kid i saw on Jane Pauley many years ago.I live in Indy and have been to several your shows.

Dang, I missed it live. Work, work, work... what can I do. Walter is an amazing person. I listened with pleasure to what he was saying. As for concerts in the CoVID era, one band in Kiev set up a stage on the roof of one building and people were watching from the hotel next to it. The only thing is that this hotel had balconies. Thank you, Joe for having those guests. I guess you have a real journalistic talent! 👍
