Also just to clarify the term "ships ahoy" refers to what the watchman in the Crowsnest says, like "land, ahoy" (land ahead) so the name "Chips Ahoy" basically translates to "Chocolate chip cookies ahead!" It just refers to what the watchman says when he spots land or another ship.

@Cosmlc1022 it can be both, but ok. Your confidence in being completely incorrect is astounding, though. "Ho" is just a varient of "ahoy", an abbreviation. It started as "ahoy" and eventually evolved into "ho" A lot of scholars think it changed because "ho" was just easier to shout and apparently easier to hear. The emphasis on "ho" with an exclamation seems to ring louder. Check the etymology. I'm not wrong.
