Pretty sure music stores would change their "No Stairway" policy if that version was being belted out! NICE!!

I’m one of his best followers starting at least his first band. Dixie Grit ,in the mid 70s, stoned at a concert off Walton Way,Augusta Ga.Steve,Andy & Rod When are the most intricate tight bands mixed with Mahavishnu Orchestra, Yes + mix of old Walsh cannonball country, Pickin and so much more . I started to mimic just pieces of his pick style and it followed him all through today. My condolences for his loss of his best friend. I’ve been down the same street and it really hurts. But I’m glad to see him out and about with all the surgeries operations, he overcome through the years. He is simply amazing. Andy impressed me just a few months ago with his ability to play cruise control in so many other awesome songs by the Dregs. I hope I can make it to the gig. Andy is putting on in September with all those amazing guests. Sammy in Savannah

I start tuning the first string in the series a half step or so sharp. In Andy's case the D...tune to D# at the start of each go around. After a few reps you tune less and less sharp on that D. Takes less tuning cycles to converge. A lot less. Thanks for the beautiful rendition of Stairway.

I just got a second hand Suhr Andy Wood HH and I needed to watch this to learn how to make the Tremelo behave well and keep stable tuning ! Just ordered some lemon Oil and Nut Sauce From Sweetwater ! Try a Duncan Lil 59 in the bridge on that Suhr Strat !

I like your Style Andy….. 13mins into the video, & after Playing for 40yrs, i think i will do My string changes now with this Floating Floyd "Pro" one at a time since you talk about the instrument as "Organic". This should make for a happier Neck retaining more constant tension. I too like My neck adjusted strait as an arrow. I wonder what your thoughts would be using a locking nut vs String gauge, i guess it would only depend on scale length at that point as all string pull ends at the locking nut evenly. talking 6 aside vs 3&3 times string length does make sense

My understanding is that lemon oil is only for unfinished rosewood or ebony necks. Am I wrong? Probably.

Lemon oil is good for neck and fretboard. Don’t over use, but it’s good.

Okay man. First of all, thanks for your reply on your last live stream (YT comments). I'm a patron since quite a while (I think at least 2 years) and here's one thing you mention, that I've always thought... Making content for people who are NOT that advanced by always playing top notch licks. Don't get me wrong! I dig it! But there is so much that I'm not even trying because it's so much to swallow and you demonstrate it by playing it "slowly" (which is mostly still super fast) and often play it a little bit different when playing it the second/third/fourth etc. time. I'm quite a bit advance, I would say. I play since 25 years now. But I think, I need more in depth lessons on Patreon. Way slower versions to transcribe it and maybe even a loop pedal and/or a metronome to be able to hear those licks in a rhythmical and harmonical context. Just as a humble request from a poor "not so ridiculously advanced" guitar player from Germany. ;) Thanks for everything though, man! Love you! Cheers. Markus

You got it brother!!! My biggest fear is that I’m playing stuff that you guys already know how to do, so I try to keep the intensity quick. I’ll go more in depth and break things down further

@@andywoodmusic I just wrote a comment where I misunderstood you. I deleted it. So don't get confused! Yes, that's what I meant. A little more "not so advanced" stuff. And btw... greetings to Ben (who I'm also a patron of)! His content becomes a little too easy for me. Just kick his ass a little from me. Thanks! ;)

That's a good hack... I can go fishing and then set my guitar up. I don't want to bring it up directly what that means, they can watch the episode. I'm playing the string game now. Slinky is out. D'addario is a long time standard Fooling around with EVH currently

More inches of total string length equals more inches of metal stretch/elasticity equals a slinkier feel. Fender style 6 inline strings have slinkier B and high E strings than the same strings on a 3+3 headstock.
@andywoodmusic
@andywoodmusic Ай бұрын
@@GregorHoul I find the opposite to be true, when I play reverse headstocks the low strings feel like they have more tension.
@GregorHoul
@GregorHoul Ай бұрын
@@andywoodmusic The tension is the same, but the increased elasticity from increased length make strings feel slinkier with respect to pick attack, fretting and subtle vibrato. They can feel tenser when bending, though, as you have to push the string--and typically its adjacent string---further to achieve e.g. the whole tone change in pitch. I have a Suhr Scott Henderson, and wanted to try 8s on it for years, but couldn't get the high E to sound right when tuned to pitch. Too flabby to even respond like a string at tension. The solution was to pull it really tight into the tuner lock and lock it down, subtly reducing the total string length. Now the high E 8s articulate just fine. I never had that problem with 3+3 or 6 inline headstocks with string trees. String trees increase total string length, though, so if that was the only criteria, they should make strings feel flabbier, but they do the opposite, so the angling of the string over the saddle--as well as from tree to tuner, I suppose---has to impede the string's elasticity, somehow. I'm thinking your difference in preference may have more to do with scale length than 3+3 vs. 6 inline, but it doesn't really matter. Your hands like what they like regardless of physics, and no one can argue with your results. It's all personal.
