Fucking excellent. Blistering is the right word too. By the late 80's they were a shadow of themselves but the first 5 years, they were untouchable. Those live vocal delays on Joey & Dee Dee got dropped by the mid eighties but they were perfect to add to the insanity of earlier live Ramones. Great job. Damn I miss those guys.
@HardlyRamone3 жыл бұрын
Yeah sadly in 1981-1982 Johnny changed his guitar style for the faster songs. The tempos just got too fast to play the original way. He kept the downstrokes, but used far more broken up strum patterns that didn’t vary much from song to song. Dee Dee also slowly lost interest in the band through the 80s. I like some stuff from that era a lot, but the ferocity and power of the 70’s takes the cake for me. Some of their 1980 shows carry over that 1979 sound, too.

Ha yeah you’re right. If you select slow mo playback you can kinda see when the strums are landing, but the camera does struggle to catch the exact range of movement. And thanks! Ive got that sort of physique and the guitar technique down so I figure I might as well do the rest for the cool factor. Plus it adds to the energy of the playing in this weird way! The “pogoing” was hard to learn..

@@JohnnyRamonesT-Shirt Yeah, I just so happen to be the same height and weight he was in his mid 20s, going off his book. Decided I might as well find some shirts like his and wear my ripped jeans for the videos, haha. Makes the strat look like such a strange outlier. I had always wanted to upload a sort of archival series of how to play these songs the right way, but these guitar covers are like a full on tribute act at this point
@JohnnyRamonesT-Shirt3 жыл бұрын
@@HardlyRamone That’s great man. I’ve been wanting to get Commando, out of all the Ramones Johnny to me would have the most interesting autobiography. He was there from the start and was, to me at least, the leader of the group. And because him and me both come from NYC. I’m from the Bronx not Queens but I’ve been a Ramones fan for as long as I can remember, you almost have to be one if you’re from NYC haha The shirts are so cool especially the yellow one. It looks exactly like the one Johnny had with the red Ramones logo. And yeah, it’d all be complete with the Mosrite, but the green Strat goes nicely. Regardless if it’s tutorials or a tribute act, it’s great content. Whenever I wanna see how to play one of their songs, I come to your channel. Especially the Surfin’ Bird video where Johnny plays constant downstrokes, that’s definitely one of his best performances. Keep it up!
@HardlyRamone3 жыл бұрын
@@JohnnyRamonesT-Shirt Yeah Commando was very interesting, short and to the point.. but that makes sense, lol. That's cool you're from NYC, I'd like to go there some time. And man, thanks so much. The channel was always intended to be a resource for fans who want to play the songs accurately. I really hope it continues to gain traction, I'd just like to see the real Ramones guitar style be more common knowledge, the way many other famous players' techniques are well understood. Glad the outfit hasn't gone unnoticed, I went and bought a yellow shirt and a blue wristband just for filming this video, since Johnny wore similar stuff a lot in '79. A little production design never hurts, haha

Hardly do you know why Johnny stopped playing as many downstrokes as he did in the early days? Could it be a reason that he got older and was struggling hard trying to keep up? I mean he was 31 at this point and It's Alive was when he was about 30 too. So I'm guessing that could be the reason besides trying to sound as fast and loud as many 80s Rock bands.

what is the secret to your tone do you use any pedals or is it just the amp also what are your amp settings
@HardlyRamone3 жыл бұрын
No pedals for any of the tones on this channel, I just use the licensed Marshall amp plugins of the same amps Johnny used, and then I add additional EQ/Reverb/Compression as needed to mimic the sound of the specific recording I’m covering. That’s it! Amp settings aren’t very important, usually it’s volume/gain on 10 with the mids really high and the treble and bass set low. The tone needs a lot of treble but the plugins are weirdly too bright with the knob way up. The rest of the tone is just in the technique, Johnny played a very particular way
