It's funny how WEM kit was everywhere in 1969/70 (given away free) but almost nobody used it after that point. Gilmour kept a cabinet and I had an amp combo that sounded great, I sold it to DEVO.

I was born in '68 and due to vague, unplacable memories from the 70s I always associate Wem gear as being outdoors on a summer's day, somewhere surrounded by fields - so this video HAD to happen!!! XD My God, thank you!

@@TroglodyteMusic Charlie Watkins was a customer when I worked at CT Electronics selling components. He was not impressed with the new-fangled analog 'bucket brigade' delay units that were coming on the market at the time, and referred to them as 'squawk boxes'.. If you had to use and maintain WEM Copycats as a PA tech, the BBDs and the Roland Space Echo were a godsend.

I remember seeing Pink Floyd at the Seaburn Hotel in the North East and later at Newcastle City Hall. Lots of WEM stuff, plus their Azimuth Coordinator columns spread around the venue. Regarding power amps, I seem to recall The Groundhogs using ten Quad 303s at one point. RIP Tony McPhee.

My cousin designed 20 hertz bass cabs and wedge mons starting in 1978...i had no idea how state of the art his stuff was (still is) also...a mixer exists from about 1980. Clair bros built it because nothing matched their needs..it was supposed to be junked but someone saved it. Clair bros checked out my cousin's gear but went with 4x15 or 18 boxes....thanks for sharing..i built the cabs and still use the horns and subs. I remember a owner of a local sound company saying the cabs should have hard points to fly them

Never met these guys and it's interesting to see how they go about a large system for outdoor use on the other side of the pond. I have met Bill Hanley, who fathered large outdoor PA in the USA. He's fairly well known for the Woodstock system and also the gear used to allow The Beatles to do early stadium shows. Probably the first guy to use what we call stage monitors.

Are those mics a kind of noise cancelling arrangement where environmental sound cancels out through the two faces? If so you would expect them to work just as well the other way around at 180 degree anti-phase. They would be designed in that case to be acoustically symmetrical.

Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam ." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window ? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"

Too bad that real musicians don’t have a chance at acquiring these amps and fx because of “collectors” like this. I believe it starts as a passion but when money is involved that passion washes away. Nice to see but utterly useless.
