What a wonderful interview! One can sense the legacy of all aspects of perfumery in him. The interest in everything involved in the process, the necessity for the most amazing materials, even the right attitude. This gentleman seems very accomplished in all aspects of the field, and as the beautiful person he obviously is.

Thank you for these interview uploads. I always uncover a thrilling mystery when I learn that the same perfumer is behind two totally different fragrances, both of which I love and chose to buy above all others. In this case Knightsbridge by Robert Piguet and Aurelien by Carine Roitfeld. They're chalk and cheese yet both Guichard creations which I instantly connected with. Sonia Constant is another perfumer who I seem to be kindred spirits with: Memoires de Daisen-In for Ella K and Moonlight Patchouli for Van Cleef and Arpels are also olfactory strangers and yet...??? By the way, your review of Gabe Oppenheim's 'The Ghost Perfumer' which is up on on Base Notes is SENSATIONAL. How anybody could read it and NOT order the book immediately I'll never understand ;).

Thanks, Suleika. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you'll be able to make it one day. Which time zone are you in? What sort of broadcast time would work best for you?
@suleikahorz86512 жыл бұрын
@@Persolaise Thank you Dariush. Actually, I'm in the right time zone, living in Paris. It's just that I don't manage to be available when you broadcast. ;-) Or I miss the notifications or get them after the broadcast. Probably 8pm French time would be the easiest for me. But don't worry, one day will come when it will just be the right fit. :-) I won't complain, it's much more difficult for others living in an opposite time zone.

Thank you for another great episode! 🤩 I have also seen your interview with Lea Indemodables - how would you compare these 2 brands and their fragrances? BTW: I always miss your live sessions, although I have subscribed and hit the notification bell… I don’t get notifications. And I have wanted to ask for quite a while: what does ‘Persolaise’ mean, where does this name come from? 😊
@Persolaise2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I'm not entirely sure how all the KZbin notifications work. I think you have to click on the bell, but you also have to allow notifications on your phone/computer. It's all a bit complicated. If you visit this page persolaise.com/perfume-reviews you should be able to find links to all my reviews, and you'll be able to decide what my opinion of the two brands is.

How does one regulate the quality of the perfume despite variation in harvest conditions (poor harvest vs great harvest)? Can you tell in the final bottling? Are harvests blended for consistency?

Perhaps he’ll come back one day so we can ask him.

I have read about this cocerning no5. If it was not no5 it was Thierry Wasser in an interview speaking about it. Please excuse my bad memory. Every year's production varies a tiny bit. It is in the responsibility of the head or in-house perfumer to balance this out and use whatever materials or techniques to bring the smell as close as possible to the intended smell. (however they go about defining what that exactly is. I could only guess and imagine without real success how a perfumer uses his scent memory and experience to maintain the quality at the desired level)
@RachelKNg2 жыл бұрын
@@L-Ondee Thank you, Heinke! I’ve heard that in the industry at large this is less of a problem (as supply chains are so closely controlled), but to be an independent farmer & raw materials supplier… I can’t imagine the work & expertise involved!
@suleikahorz86512 жыл бұрын
I remember Guerlain talking about it many years ago. They called it "communelle" which is a blend of different batches of raw materials often coming from different harvests and regions. It helps the perfumer/company to keep a homogenous, constant quality standard over the years no matter the weather conditions, economic restrictions, etc...The word stuck with me so that I think it's one of the 1st technical terms I remembered at the beginning of my perfume passion. Of course it's easier to do a communelle when you are working with many different producers. It also helps the perfume company to keep a better secret of their formulations. In addition to the fact of keeping a quality consistency and olfactive seal there is another advantage: it can make a fragrance more original, complex or facetted to use the same raw material (in terms of botanical origin I mean) harvested in different regions and time periods of the year. And if you emphasize on one origin or production method or raw material quality like for the Shalimar Millésime Vanilla Planifolia, you can twist the perfume and accentuate some of its facets. Hope my explanation was not too confusing. English being not my mother tongue. And me being only a perfume aficionado and not a perfumer. ;-)

@@suleikahorz8651 Thank you! This is fascinating & very helpful/educational! It makes a lot of sense. Also, I’m very impressed with what Guichard is doing with his farm (using micro-climate & I’m guessing riskier margins, etc.). Fascinating.
