Rewatching this review because yesterday, I attended a lecture by Marc Antoine Corticchiato in the Perfume Lounge in Amsterdam. What a great expericience that was! 💛 Such a generous and gentle man! He lectured us about spirituality and sensuality in perfume and let us smell all kinds of raw materials he used in his fragrances as side by sides. So I think this may have been the first time I have smelt REAL oud and things like the extracts/essences of vanille madagascar, ambre gris, styrax and tabac etcetera. It was great! He also spoke of his personal history and the stories behind his creations. Horses are very important to him as he lost both his parents at an early age and working with horses and riding them brought him comfort during his grief over his tremendous loss. So that explains that theme in his work. I bought Un Bel Amour d’Été which I had sampled a few times already and he signed the box for me. 🥰 He only speaks French but he spoke slowly and clearly so I could very easily understand him. I think it’s really worth investigating if you could do an interview with him joined by an interpreter because I am sure you and your audience would love to hear everything he has to say. 🙏

I just applause for the courage you had to sniff those extraits! 😂 like somebody said in the chat Matière Première is all what is wrong with actual hyped pop niche. No surprise they called into that extraits trend. Really don’t like the house. However, I wear Botafumeiro from Carner with a close DNA to Encens suave but not as screamer and not as much woody ambers.

This brand I was very excited to try when it launched, unfortunately I found them way too synthetic. I remember them to have a very well judged consistency throughout the line, but lacking any authenticity or semblance of natural ingredients.

I was only able to get a sample of the Vanille Planifolia and just love it! It is very unique to my nose, nothing that I have tried before. We know that we have an artistic creation when different people are differently inspired by it. There are so many parfume houses that can do "complex" fragrances these days, but simplicity well done is another matter.

Thanks for the video. Personally, although I like several of their fragrances, I see this whole idea of extracts as a way to renew interest in the brand and, of course, an additional source of income without much effort. However, just to justify the brand a bit, I would like to add that Aurélien Guichard once said that many people he knows have stopped using fragrances because they are too complicated and overwhelming for them, so he wanted to make a composition that would be understandable to them, that they would know what do they smell like. and one more thing: a charming Bolshevik?? seriously???🤦

I do enjoy French flower and Encens Suave which I enjoy as an amber (rather than an incense) I really didn’t like Crystal Saffron (car tyres anyone) and I HATE (I don’t use that word frequently) Vanilla Powder - just horrifically dry yucky coconut powder/husk affair. I felt very nauseous.

I spit out laughing at your first sentence about Yatagan, because it’s exactly what I said in my head when I saw the title: Yatagan is a funny one. 😅 it’s a unique creation. I distinctly remember a few swinging dads who wore this in the 80s and I didn’t smell it again until around 5 years ago. It smacked me in my memory banks! 😂 I wish I could get a decant of the old stuff.

Is it terrible that I enjoyed watching you struggle through these? 😝 I had never smelled anything from this brand, so I ordered a couple samples and coincidentally they arrived today. I smelled along with original Encens Suave and found it to be neither suave nor terribly incensey for that matter. And yes, weirdly sweet and maybe fruity?? I got the Bois D’Ebene as well but left it at the office so can’t comment. Not terribly hopeful for it after seeing this!

Thank you for this video! My relationship with matiere premiere is quite complicated as it started as such a big love at the beginning of this Hobby. I was quite certain I will get many of them. After I learnt more about the perfumery and got to discover more about its art form, the relationship fell down. I owned radical rose but had to sell it due to its bombastic sillage and extreme sweetness. Parisian musc started bothering me. I never really liked Santal Austral and Falcon Leather as they became too huge and angry using your words. I think currently I get along just with their softer side: French Flower and Neroli Oranger. In the end, I think their appeal lies in their straightforward and easy to understand approach, which is not necessarily bad if you are looking for minimalism, but I don’t like they make them so big against all the odds.

"The best Creeds I have ever smelled " i love that line 😂 I was so excited to wake up this morning to 3 new vidoes from you! I sniffed those on the blotter last week. As you said, they were pleasant and 'meh'. Didn't want to spray on skin in case I like them too much for that ridiculous price point 😂. The price is a branding thing. It's projecting an aura of exclusivity more than a reflection of "materials used and the star dust infused juice" Anyway, always a good laugh reviewing Creed and reading the comments! Btw, what is beautifully sublime is the Amouage opus VIII still on my wrist from the night before, I'd rather spend my money on an old bottle of that!

I work in this space and have many French colleagues who often use ‘qualitative’ to describe ‘high quality.’ Over time, I’ve realized this is due to a translation error-they believe it’s the correct way to express ‘high quality’ in English. On another note, I’m also in the minority who wasn’t impressed by MP, and I feel similarly about Commodity. Both brands seem to be trying too hard to appear niche without embracing the true essence of niche perfumery. Instead of offering something innovative or boundary-pushing, they come off as following trends.
