Back to back Colombia interviews Ray.. you're breaking the code of travel haha ..i been to Bogotá many times. The gentleman made a lot of valid points & advice..but he's way off on "Manhattan prices" for section 6. Usaquin area is the best and Airbnb for 1 bedroom (fully furnished w/internet) go from 700 to 1500 depending on your budget.

I live in Colombia but in an area off the beaten track. I have been to Bogotá a handful of times. One thing not mentioned much is the altitude. It is over 2600 meters/8600 feet which is a problem if you are not used to it. The weather is too cool for my taste (San Francisco, California is a good comparison). You get more rain in Bogotá than other parts of the country as well. It is a huge city with huge city problems. If you love the big city vibe, it is worth checking out. By Colombian standards it is an expensive place to live but it is cheap? By US standards it is a bargain but in all cases each person will have his own perspective based on his personal taste. The only way to know for sure is to go there.

We went to Bogota many years ago. We really enjoyed it and had a great time. The one negative I remember were the hotel employees kept an eye on us closely, always got certain taxis for us, even walked with us to places we were going closeby. They were always concerned and told us it was not safe for us to just be out strolling around. We were staying at a very nice hotel. But that was a long time ago. But, the people were super friendly, the weather was cool and wonderful, and the city was really nice. If you were in a good neighborhood it seems like it would be a great city to live in.

That's typical in many areas of the world. Many employees and guides have certain people such as taxi drivers, restaurants, cafes that they have a relationship with and get a commission through them. Thanks for viewing an sharing your experience!

The only chaotic thing in Bogota is the traffic. And as long as you avoid the dangerous places and time, Bogota is the best place to retire🤓

Even in the U.S., the HOA fee ALWAYS gets put into the rent of a condo. Its the same everywhere.

The outskirts of Bogota are very nice and pretty quiet neighborhoods. I would visit it again to explore more options for retirement.

Great interview of someone living in a great city! I didn't realize that Bogota was so affordable. For some reason, I figured that it is on the high end of costs for South American cities, but I guess not. The main issue I have though is the weather. From I understand, there are a lot of grey chilly (or even downright cold) days and apartments don't tend to have central heat. But I guess if the weather was sunny and warm all year, the cost would be much higher, lol.

Sounds like it's great if you love a place like Los Angeles or New York City! If you want to downsize the city where you live, yikes! If you want to avoid congestion, noise, pollution, crowds, etc. that is something else, at least in my opinion.

Absolutely NOT!!!! Is too crowded, not secured and too expensive, you can do la lot better in the Eje Cafetero in cities like Armenia way cheaper, safer area in Colombia and you can find new apartments and homes throughout the area.

@@adventurefreaksss Armenia is actually 70 to 80 degrees all year round, spring like weather, Pereira is hot and Manizalez is cool weather like Bogota.
