Hi, this song isn't about someone dying in childbirth. I believe it's more about the circle of life. The lyrics speak of a new baby being born while an old woman down the hall dies. It says the confusion that was hers belongs now to the baby down the hall. Great song from the 90's by Live. I remember the radio stations censoring out the part about the placenta falling to the floor, lol.

The song is about reincarnation. The singer had a fascination with Hinduism at the time. On their next album "Secret Samadhi" the song "Lakini's Juice" is about his transition from Christianity to Hinduism. I highly recommend the song

Here are the lyrics for this song. It may be easier to understand that it's not about a woman dying in childbirth, but the circle/cycle of life and death; I really like the song for just that reason...the continuum of life...but the singing and music too. Lightning crashes a new mother cries Her placenta falls to the floor The angel opens her eyes The confusion sets in Before the doctor can even close the door Lightning crashes an old mother dies Her intentions fall to the floor The angel closes her eyes The confusion that was hers Belongs now to the baby down the hall Oh now feel it, comin' back again Like a rollin', thunder chasing the wind Forces pullin' from The center of the earth again I can feel it. Lightning crashes a new mother cries This moment she's been waiting for The angel opens her eyes Pale blue colored iris Presents the circle And puts the glory out to hide, hide Oh now feel it, comin' back again Like a rollin', thunder chasing the wind Forces pullin' from The… Oh now feel it, comin' back again Like a rollin', thunder chasing the wind Forces pullin' from The center of the earth again I can feel it. Oh now feel it, comin' back again Like a rollin', thunder chasing the wind Forces pullin' from The center of the earth again I can feel it. This song is beautiful. It has a very sad memory connected to it for me. On the morning that the Oklahoma City Bombing happened I was listening to the radio to hear the updates. After they informed the listeners of the loss of babies and children dying - the DJ dedicated this song to those children. It was surreal. Pretty close to 9/11. I still love this song.

Pillar of Davidson would be a great one to react to, too! Throwing Copper is just a fantastic album from start to finish! All Over You is a personal fave.❤️ Lightning Crashes is such an emotional song that was dedicated (IIRC) to a high school friend who died suddenly~ she was killed by a drunk driver. Since my mom's passing from cancer in 2012, who was my best friend & just the greatest mom ever, this song has reminded me of her. ❤️❤️❤️ And I've had Throwing Copper since it was released. Funny how older songs can take on new meaning at later stages in your life. Live has *many* amazing songs. Love seeing someone react to them!

The band is named live, the song is called lightning crashes. Live is a very under appreciated rock band from the 90’s, I love this album but I also love the album secret samadhi. He has such a strong voice. I think this song is more about how as one person dies another is born, maybe even reincarnated into a new person. “Lightning crashes an old mother dies Her intentions fall to the floor The angel closes her eyes The confusion that was hers Belongs now to the baby down the hall”

My mom was a midwife and an L&d nurse before that, I was raised by these women and I volunteered at the hospital. We were told that if there was a rose on the door to not enter because it meant she had lost a baby. I remember having followers for a lady w a rose 🌹 on the door and I stopped. Life is so precious and gone too soon and making a life carrying a life delivering that life it’s all a miracle. After that day giving birth was somehow bigger. That’s what this song makes me think of and hugs for all the moms and all the families that lose moms!

This was one of my favorite songs in my teens. It was all over the radio, along with a few of their other songs. I didn't own a CD player until my older brother bought me one for my birthday at the end of 1996 and then I only had 4 CDs, so I made mix tapes with their songs from the radio. (The CDs he gave me were Garbage, 311, and NIN pretty hate machine and the downward spiral lol) This song resonates with me because it's a story of pain and triumph... and has an intense chorus to belt out loudly. As i remember, there was a lot of angst and longing in the songs i liked as a teenager... it hit home as a confused, burgeoning kid. Also, they played this and stuff like blind melon with a live band at my church... it reminds me of a Christian band i really dug named Plumb. The challenge has been finding these songs on spotify and KZbin because the band's name always brings up live renditions of songs, but not usually the band... and i may remember the song, but not its name or specific lyrics after so long.

The band is "LIVE" -- the song is "Lightning Crashes". To ME, their best songs are "OVERCOME" and "TURN MY HEAD". If you see this, please check out those two songs by "Live".

I have always liked a lot of the 90's "Grunge" bands. My son was a teenager then and was a big fan of Pearl Jam and now his son just turned 13 and loves the same music and is a guitar player that loves Nirvana. And life carries on!

@Becky Boo Don't think so. It talks about an old mother dying and a new mother giving birth. Doesn't mention organ donations

The song is not about someone dying during childbirth. It's about the cycle of life. An older mother dies while the new mother gives birth to a new life down the hall.

I lost my first child right before this song came out. It kind of gets to me, but I listened to it anyway.

I love this song it reminds me of my daughter's birth. They told me one or both of us wouldn't make it and recommended an abortion . I chose to take my chances and we are both here. She's now 17

I really wanted to do an altered version of All Over You at my sisters wedding. Live is a profound band too bad they really never made it even though most people recognize their hits.

It has a great sound to it...probably heard it 100 times and never seen the video or really listened to the lyrics...just a good sound that is outside what I normally listen to...just always likes the tune.

I think the message is even greater than a single death or birth. I see a celebration of the miracle of life where the spark goes out in one life and then comes to life in another; and the cycle continues. What I cant figure is the symbolism of all the books on the floor being blown and tattered, not so sure what that represented.
@magesentron

This song is about a sort of symbolic reincarnation as in life happens at the moment of death and the life transfers, in a way, it's synchronistic.

I almost died giving birth to my daughter who is now 8 years old. My husband's been scared to death of me getting pregnant again. But every time I hear this song it brings me back to that time when I flatlined and then taking that deep breath of air again, hearing my husband screaming for me to wake up. The song is pretty hard for him to listen to. But we both thank God I am still here.
