So Dave. For the past 7 years I have lived like no one else. Divorced because my husband chose wine over our family, I was bereft and without retirement plans...and 63 years old. So I had a job....snd saved literally every penny. In the past 7 years I saved 205 thousand dollars towards retirement , paid off half my house (80 grand) , have my 20 grand emergency fund, have my 6 grand new used car fund and believe me, during this time , read every book you wrote. I am now 71 years old and am planning to retire from my very stressful State job and have a lovely side business, teaching Qigong to seniors. I plan to continue saving and paying off my mortgage as now this has become a comfortable lifestyle. ..and what do you know, living frugally is now a trend! All this to say many thanks for your inspiration and your loving concern for us all.

Been married 3 1/2 years, 50k in debt and we live with my parents. I would find my self driving around in neighborhoods close to home crying because I failed in having our own home. This happened a few times and it was an incredible burden to bare knowing that you are married, yet broke and can’t afford your own place. I was near despair but kept going trying to better the situation with unpractical money applications. That was just a few months ago. Two weeks ago my wife and I attended our first of nine FPU classes at Harvest Bible Chapel Elgin, IL. We now have baby step one secure and have begun baby step two with good traction! My hope has been restored and I believe that the best is yet to come! We thank you Dave for your story and your passion to help others see what is achievable by trusting God’s plan and stop being stupid. He has used you in a mighty way and still is as He has inspired us through you to walk by Faith in this area of our life which will transcend in all other areas of our life so we can share our story in the hopes to multiply the story and bring God more glory! The exact same lessons Dave taught back in 1992 are just as relevant and pertinent today. Dave - thank you my friend.
@kdogthehandyman6 жыл бұрын
True but they were 90 day notes meaning the old bank was renewing his loans every 90 days. The new bank did not call them they just honored the 90 day loan limit. If he had conventional or longer loan terms lik 5years he could have sold them and still made and kept his millions. what happened in the 80s was the way taxes were handled form making money from buy-ing and selling real estate. didn't hurt home prices it just slowed the market down because the buyerss had decreased. Another reason he could not see in 90 days. Extremely risky loans and extremely stupid like he said but he could have still made millions from real estate. he was over leveraged from stupid 90 day loans. 1.2 million on 90 day loans is beyond stupid. He has helped many people though and his lessons are great on how to get out of debt so Dave seems to be a great guy but just clearing up his story a bit.

29 years old, two college degrees (Bachelor and Masters), no college debt. Bought a 6 bedroom house at 26 years of age. Own 4 cars, 3 of which are paid off. I have a good career with great job security and I will be retired when I'm 55. Its all about smart choices. You can come from a poor background and be a success. However you have to be willing to make extreme sacrifices. (i.e. Not going out to eat, having a car that gets you from point A to point B, paying off debt instead of traveling, not going to the movies). Now I can enjoy all of those things I never could before. The same friends that kept bugging you to go out with them are now the ones so financially strapped that they are the ones telling you they can't go out.

Thank you Dave Ramsey!! Three years ago I got a good paying job, and began to get serious about my debt. I would listen to your show, and think I can do this. Cut up the credit cards, paid them off, paid off a loan from the bank, paid off my car, and the only thing I have are mortgage payments that I'll be addressing soon. Being broke sucks. The freedom to help others and not stress over money is a freedom I did not enjoy before because of my selfish spending and not adulting about finances. I am now a Federal employee, and the shutdown really brought home to me what taking control of my finances did for me. So many coworkers were stressed, and had nothing to fall back on...living hand to mouth. THANK YOU, as I was not one of those people terrified of where to turn. Blessings to you always~💞

They were 90 day loans though, meaning the bank did not just randomly call them up they just didn't renew the loan. he could have kept and made his millions if he had 5,10,15 year loans on them most likely. home values did not crash like they did in 07-08. now Dave is right about the whole debt thing but borrowing money on real estate when you have no consumer debt and the payments are extremely low compared to your income is not a bad thing per say.
@FrozenMrSadness5 жыл бұрын
@@naddarr1 Loans can make real estate very profitable. By using loans, you're able to get to leverage a property for 1/4 of the price. Not only will you get some good cashflow, but you'll have someone else paying down the loan, which gives you more equity. This is even safer if it's a multifamily unit. Even though Dave Ramsey lost some properties, let's not forget that he was profiting 250k/yr and had $1million after. This was all in the span of 3 years.
@taskcasburn60865 жыл бұрын
@@kdogthehandyman Debt should never be the norm when investing. It should just be looked at as a very temporal means which you have to financially work through (meaning working to pay off, of course) to get to equity. Once you have equity then that should replace debt ASAP. At least, that's how smart people treat money. I know the crooks, schemers and financial profiteers and backers of Wall Street are high risking wheelers and dealers who operate on debt but remember they're also a bunch of cons and thieves as well. They tell you information that lines their pockets because they play around with numbers and credit default swaps etc. all day long like the financial risk takers they are but honest money advice for the smart and common man is not to spend more than you make. Banks don't hand out loans because they lose money, they do it because they profit off interest rates and because they have more than enough fools out there willing to sign a dotted line without thinking things through. Bottom line, any time you go into the red (debt, borrowing) on your investments you are taking pointless risks and might as well be gambling in a casino because building equity coupled with spending within your means is how you get and stay ahead financially. Us common people have to play by those rules to make it. As for Wall Street, well, they can take risks when they get subsidies (our tax dollars and Money printed by the FED on demand) and have members of congress in their back pockets working things out for them and when we end up paying for their mistakes. Which is exactly what happened in '08 and continues to happen. Unfortunately, we don't get our secured personal debts cushioned like they do so we have to be careful with our money.

OMG.... found you later in life but thanks so much for all of your endless help and for sharing your story. I graduated during the late 70s and started a dairy farm while working at the saw mill where I was employed since the age of 14. Those were hard decades. But we didn’t know it at that time, it was just the way things were. We worked at times without electricity because the power had been cut off at the mill which helped me learn to live without power in my own home while cutting back to improve my dairy facilities. Eventually sold out, built a mortgage free house, went to work for the gov and back to school at night. Now I’m retired, no debt whatsoever and am thankful for those years that taught me how to live like no one else!

Just because the bank will lend you the money, doesn’t mean you should take it. Dave’s baby steps works. The US gov’t is subsidizing all these home mortgages and auto loans. If you can’t pay cash for a car, you can’t afford the car. If you can’t afford the house payment on a 15 year fixed rate mortgage, you can’t afford it.

I was in big debt but since i started reading your book 4 years ago called Total Money Makeover, it changed my life. I was able to get rid off all my credit cards in 1 year, then got rid off leased car payments and bought a cash car after two years, it has been 4 years and i got 3 months left to pay off my student loan and after that i am finally debt free. It was the best decision i have ever made in my life. Financial stress free forever. Thank you because you also put me closer to God.

16k in credit cards paid off in a few years; a piece of real estate paid off a bit later; our home paid off a few years later; a rental house paid off in the following decade. I appreciate Dave's teaching that helped us make this possible.

Bless you Dave and Sharon... You have helped so many people and given them hope.. I live in New Zealand, i have no debt's, however I'm on a very low income, and its a struggle every day, I put aside a small amount of money each week to put in an emergency fund and xmas fund for food.. its been a hard row to hoe, but the best thing about my entire situation is, that I have no debt, and I may not have a car or bus money but I can sleep at night... Wow you guys have been the light at the end of the tunnel for thousands in financial trouble.. Thank you.. :)

Dave you have changed my life man. I believe you are the final key to me finally understanding the true meaning to success. I ALWAYS blew my money growing up and was proud to do so. Now I watch every purchase I make. If I want to buy something I google it for reviews before even considering buying it. I will be 100% debt free this week. Making my final payment for my credit card. Only thing I technically owe money on is a cell phone that will also be paid off within the month. But the longest CC debt is going to be gone. I truly understand what you have been preaching for "live like no one else" and I do that. This video was beautifully made. Thank you so very much for being you. God bless you kind sir

I've been working a 2nd job since April of this year and already paid off $10k in debt. More money and more smart spending and saving has been the biggest thing. More cooking, no food delivery, only $15 or less food out if I do, less dessert, no coffees out, no alcohol out, etc. You can do it!

My senior year in HS I took a class in financial literature and everything Dave Ramsey said is so true looking back on in almost 12 years ago. Don’t ever believe you can’t escape from the mountains of debt because you can if you plan a budget and spend safely. Ramsey is the epitome of how you can escape from the depths of darkness.

Dave Ramsey changed our financial family tree. We don't always get it right, but God's grace is sufficient. We just pick back up and keep going. The stories I hear on the Dave Ramsey Show give me the encouragement to do so.

I grew up in a blue collar family, living in housing projects, driving truck to put myself through a local university campus, kicked out twice for poor grades, but finally finished, and went on to get a masters. Had 11 jobs in my career, and got fired or laid off from half of them, Put our two kids through school at major out of state universities. Retired at 62 as a multi millionaire, with zero debt. Because I thought I could. I didn't know Dave until recently, but strangely, I did live mostly by his rules. It worked out.

True financial peace is having the strength to control your finances. To live a frugal lifestyle and live within your means. Credit cards? I control them. They don't control me. I have a few cards that I use on a regular basis. I have not paid a dime of interest in decade's as I don't carry a balance beyond the end of the billing period. Now that I am retired, I not only live like no one else, I give like no one else. It's fun to do.
