Shintaro, you got to do this again. This was a cool match. I liked seeing their gripping exchanges. Great feather in Melissa’s cap to win this match with newaza against an IBJJF competitor and World Masters Medallist. As a 1st, going on 2nd degree BJJ Black Belt actively competing in Judo, I am still translating my skill sets to the realities on Judo competition.

I'm a judoka starting jiujitsu. Once, after six 5-minute rounds, I got tired and pulled guard. I will carry that shame with me to the end of my days.

I like this format! I didn't know who she was beforehand, but I was interested in following her match because of the interview and the commentary 👌

I use reverse sankaku frequently in bjj as well. it's a great pin, but you also have a kimura available if you want, you have a wicked toe hold if you want, and you have time in bjj to adjust and finish with the triangle too.

That makikomi was very shallow so no surprise it wasn't going to work. Just thought that on the ground there would be some kind of plan but it didn't seem to be initiated. I don't know specifically but I've found that those that practice a lot of BJJ don't seem to recognize the threat of a hold down and either don't react at all or have a very delayed reaction and by the time they do in a judo setting, it's way too late. In terms of match feedback, I think the way out was at the point where the arm bar was being threatened and the escape is to roll even further towards Megan (when she got turned onto her back).

Hey, I tried 😂 But appreciate the feedback! Still need to adjust position and understand escapes from the pin.

When I came to Judo as a BJJ purple belt I found myself instinctively reacting to holds by slowing down or even stopping, because in BJJ someone will only pin you as the set up for further attacks and the most important thing is not to panic and make a mistake. If someone is pinning you in BJJ just wait, because they have to let up on the pin to attack you.

@@madjackmadjack Same. And after a split second too late I remember "oh wait hold on I can lose by pin nonononononono".
