Glad you're enjoying them Karl and managing to do a bit yourself. I've got plenty more matches to go at this year then I might finally get a bit of pleasure fishing in and target some species.

hi john , been in minnesota for a month caught a few bass , odd northern pike ,blue gill and a bow fish known also as a dogfish a pre historic fish .missing your fishing vids hope every thing is okay with you john . stan in sunny california.

Hi Stan, sorry meant to respond sooner, was just busy with work and getting this week's video edited. I posted an update, I was basically banned from filming on the A&C and was on there for a month of weekends practicing for the water Industry champs. We got 4th place team (out of 20) and the last trophy position so it paid off but we were well beat by the environment agency Yorkshire lads. It fished really hard and I didn't have a bite for the first 2hrs 45m but came good with 7 skimmers on the tip to secure some solid points. Anyway sounds like you had a nice trip to Minnesota. As for the bow fish, I once came face to face with one of those I think in Cancun Mexico. Went snorkeling and fell in the edge with my flippers on and there it was, sat in the seaweed staring right in my mask... I've never jumped out so quick .... absolute calamity trying to run in flippers,if only you'd seen me 🤣

Ive even moulded my groundbait around a pebble before to get it down in those depths at Beal and birkin.
@HOOKEDFishingChannel3 жыл бұрын
Yes adding stones gravel or oyster shell is an option though something I only really employ when fishing bread. Molehill soil or Terre de Somme add real weight. Damp leam is a funny thing, it will add weight but break the groundbait up. Adding a bit of grey leam will help bind the groundbait but all of the above reduce the food content which is fine when the first frosts hit but as it was warm I wanted to make sure they had some feed.

Unlucky John really hard going at times, some disappointing weights in some zones. Good luck in rest of qualifiers.🎣
@HOOKEDFishingChannel3 жыл бұрын
Yes Phil, I think I was drawn in a difficult area, just got to make the most of what you get though. I quite fancy going back for a pleasure session though, a couple more weeks and the roach should be shoaling up.

beautiful day...lovely looking river.. no ducks or boats.... looked a nice day out that.... i find this kinda match where ya gotta work for it MUCH more mentally stimulating than say just hanging F1's on elastic all day.. .. .. . why you no try feeder on your bolo line..? anyway nice enjoyable vid..
@HOOKEDFishingChannel3 жыл бұрын
I didn't throw the feeder on the bolo line as it seemed quite weedy and I was using my 13ft rod, despite it maybe not looking like it on camera, the bolo line was much closer to me than the feeder and it would have been an awkward chuck with that long rod. I was really rushed in the morning so didn't have time to setup any extra rods. Glad you enjoyed it anyway and yes the day was lovely if not ideal fishing conditions.

Thanks John. The picture always looks great when there's a bit of sun out, action cams don't really like low light as the sensors are quite small in them👍

They do a lovely cider in the King's Arms at Beal...cold river it's called, me n JK stopped in for one after a hot practice session at Beal, but there was no point me heading back there this week. Sorry I don't know the gents in question but it probably is, most of the lads fishing have been around the circuit forever.

It’s a great pity that the inside line for the whip didn’t produce. It looked the part for a few fish. But unlucky, be on time next match!!!😂
@martinsereika12983 жыл бұрын
Hiya John when it's deep like that on the aire I noticed you said your groundbait was 50/50. Would you ever incorporate some damp leam or pv1 binder to get the bait down?.
@HOOKEDFishingChannel3 жыл бұрын
Yes absolutely, but as there was little flow and the groundbait bound together well, I didn't feel the need for it on this occasion.
@pnico37753 жыл бұрын
A couple of descent fish would have made all the difference m8 I really feel for you just keep the faith your luck will change .
@HOOKEDFishingChannel3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, just can't seem to find those few extra ounces at the moment but at least I'm knocking on the door - it was a decent weight considering the weights either side of me for a few pegs each way, obviously a difficult area on the day.
@clivecottingham20433 жыл бұрын
Could have done with the bream coming a bit earlier John.Don’t think you could have got much more out of that peg.well done.
@HOOKEDFishingChannel3 жыл бұрын
You're right Clive, I think I did well to tempt some skimmers in, maybe if the day had been more overcast a bigger bream would have turned up for me. Thanks mate 👍

subbed 👍.. just gonna start fishing the aire myself. Do you know if there's any chub or trout or much else in the river section just out of leeds town.. I mean the stretch that goes from royal armouries to thwaite Mills? Any info welcome. Thanks ps.. how long is a match? All the best.
@HOOKEDFishingChannel2 жыл бұрын
Definitely some chub and barbel down at Thwaite's. The town centre around the dark arches seems to be the hotspot for pretty much anything. Go on the river Aire Facebook group, facebook.com/groups/476067725803138/?ref=share

Unlucky John, hindsight is great but wasting time on float (bolo& whip) probably cost you. Considering camera problems another good video.
@HOOKEDFishingChannel3 жыл бұрын
Yes probably but I honestly didn't think the feeder was going to fish that well given the conditions. I didn't give the whip long - 10 mins max, bolo, maybe an hour in total. I had a spell on the feeder where I couldn't hit the bites, so what do you do - try another method or make a change to the setup - tried another method then went back on the feeder and slightly reduced the hooklength - it was the trade between connecting with bites and maybe getting less bites by fishing so close to the feeder - decisions, decisions...if only we had a crystal ball 😉
@mikepattinson32853 жыл бұрын
John. Had a similar situation in our float only match on Sunday. Fishing a waggler at 40m missing bites on single & double maggot, pieces of worm so switched to 3 reds on a 16 and never missed anotner bite, finished up with 7lb7oz for second 1 ounce behind the winner.

Drives me mad when I start Catching perch here on the fens. It usually means the river has switched off for silvers.
@HOOKEDFishingChannel3 жыл бұрын
Yes it usually spells the death knell. I think the skimmers were starting to muscle them out but the bright conditions meant the wary bigger break were reluctant to feed, I bet if I’d stayed on into the evening they’d have turned up!
