It makes me smile when you swing in one that is borderline and then always net the one after.
@JonArthur3 жыл бұрын
A good matchman trick is to swing the big ones and net the small ones. That fools the anglers either side ha ha

Thanks Jon, always worth a watch. Love the advice being offered about digging out the wasps nest for bait. My experience is best left alone. Went fishing once with a wasp nest in a bait for for bait, by the time I got to use them they had started to hatch. Put the lid back on and left them alone.

Yep, I will leave the wasps well alone! Not sure they are allowed at Evesham any more anyway

Hi Jon, another great video and a nice shout out for Dave at the bait box. He is always so helpful and keen to advise anyone about current conditions etc. My experience over the last few weeks fishing the Avon at Evesham and Bidford, is that the bigger fish are not feeding at all until later in the evening despite trying different methods. One method that produces nothing in the day is coming good as soon as the sun dips! Other than that I am sure the fish are moving around a lot due to the number of pike, so I try not to feed a set of swims - I keep roving around with my hookbait hoping to drop onto something. I have to credit you with me trying new methods that I would have never tried, having watched so many of your videos - thank you.

Yes I think the river is a different animal after 5pm. Lots of people say the chub suddenly arrive down the middle after the matches.

Thank you so much for another great video Jon! Watching your videos has definitely improved my approach during matches: changing tactics quickly, creating and feeding multiple lines, changing baits and switching much faster if a line doesn't go well. In addition, you also teach me to be satisfied (despite all efforts) if I only manage to catch small stuff. Looking forward to the next video already. 👍

@@JonArthur I've fished a series of evening matches and as it gets dusky towards dark some proper big roach show themselves ,you wouldn't think they are there and they are not looking at bait ,it looks like they are catching flies off of the surface . Great to watch , but very frustrating lol.

Jon, get yourself back to that peg with a shovel and a bit of quality wasp killer and dig out that wasp nest before someone else does, lol. Wasp grub on the wag across can really sort out any cagey chub. Some of my best chub days have been on wasp grub. But who am I to be advising the master? I’ll keep shtum in future, lol. Another superb video, cheers!
@JonArthur3 жыл бұрын
No thanks! I will leave them well alone.

Wasp grubs make a good bait. Having said that, I wouldn't touch that nest. I can, and do handle pain, but a don't invite it. Good job a broken rod is covered by your sponsor. Pretty good result on the day. Bit unpredict able. I mean all venues can act up, but after a short while, a pattern shows itself, but that was playing hard to sus. Regardless of result, that's a gorgeous venue, and lovely weather as well. A cracking day to out. (Except for that blasted strimmer. I had some choice words lined up for him...LOL)

great vid again john...i admire your workrate and persistence, also your precise feeding of separate spots.. is that a kinda crossover from commercials but used on river..? i also watch clive branson... he kinda sprays the WHOLE river in a chaotic style... tries all the methods... catches 5lb of silvers and loses a 2lb bream and flukes the section..lol... did he beat you on this one..?
@JonArthur3 жыл бұрын
I don't think Clive was on this one. Multiple swims stems back from my canal background, feeding different key swims and targeting different fish in different areas. I tried to apply the same thinking to commercials but actually found that wasn't always right, instead starting up new swims as you go, rather than priming from the off.
@GangesBoy3 жыл бұрын
You should have dived in that nest and got some grubs to go on the wag for the chub :)
@tompackwood20993 жыл бұрын
Not 100% sure but I think wasp grubs are banned in these matches

Looks like snagging the pike and spooking it off was the key to making the peg start producing. Shame the fish took so long to move up. No bonus fish unfortunately. Great watch though. I cannot see what else you could have done, except maybe bread a lot closer as it seems to be where people feed the birds. Good job.

Jon, I know at least 2 regular anglers there cheat. They catch chub and roach from the river teme at Powick before the match starts and keep them alive in the cars ( as you can park behind your peg on the field stretch) last year did it and no doubt this year also. The one works in a tackle shop. Bad for me to say this but its the truth 😔
