Oil pastels are not only easier to control and less messy, but are also safer. Dust from soft pastels is very irritating to the eyes. Standing back and extending the arm to draw is necessary with them. Pastels give an immediate effect that is beautifully like oil. Pastel Fridays are fun and this is a marvelous demonstration.

Could you please try out the Sennelier Oil Sticks? It's oil paint in stick form. It's different from oil pastels. I would very much see you painting with them. It's fascinating watching you paint.
