Disgraced ex-Post Office boss Paula Vennells gives evidence for the second time to the public inquiry today.
The former chief executive led the company from 2012 to 2019 but she has faced heavy scrutiny for her role during the Horizon scandal and was formally stripped of her CBE by the King earlier this year.
The Telegraph revealed how the Post Office executive joked about drinking champagne in late December 2018 after finding out she would receive the honour.
More than 900 sub-postmasters were wrongfully prosecuted between 1999 and 2015 due to faulty Horizon software incorrectly recording shortfalls on their accounts.

Horrible that innocent people had to have their lives ruined.If this would happen in the US the compensation would go into the millions - each.These poor victims will probably only get to listen to this "testimony" without receiving any compensation worth mentioning.

I disagree. There has been actual harm done to many, and this will be litigated. Compensation orders will be issued.

@yuglesstube how much each maximum? A few quid will never make up for a reputation lost. Does UK shell out enough to compensate for a career/life destroyed?

@@markhamburger5587 this amount can be quantified. Direct loss, indirect loss. Loss of reputation. Unjustified confinement. Pain and suffering. Deterrence. The amounts could be quite large, particularly if a jury rules that restitution must be made. This does not include the penalties for clear malfeasance and deception. And legal costs, of course. Not necessarily the responsibility of the Corporation.

there has been compensation already and a lot went to the lawyers. The amount that was split between the spm equated to tens of thousands only I think maybe a few 100 thousand

At 4.59 regarding the report lawyer Susan Crichton wrote but Vennells presented is very telling. Of course Vennells would never misrepresent to the board or tweak that report would she?
