Hi Alison. Old codger. Last time, I asked about an anche in the crutch of the left hand thumb. I changed position and focused on loosening the hand grip as you suggested, It worked. I think as a novice, when you grip and stretch over to get the G string notes, the hand automatically grips harder. Thought I would put it out there for your other students having the problem. Old codger, Just to confirm I am on the right track. After your suggestion last week I have worked on the left hand position. Also in clarity of notes, by putting the tuner on while playing. It's getting better as my had flexibility improves. Have manged to complete exercise 5 of lesson 8. Many thanks.

Hi Alison , old codger again. I've bought level 3 now. Probably won't get to it for couple of years. I practice every day but, it's going to take a long while. I noticed the bow is gradually getting straighter intuitively. On scales now.

Hi Alison, old codger again. The gypsy firelighter audio does nt provide a loop. So when you press start, by the time you ve positioned your bow, it's already 4 Barrs in before you are ready to play. Any chance you can enable a loop so you can wait for the restart.

There is an introduction in all the piano parts - which is indicated in the sheet music. I think there is plenty of time to be ready once you press play.

Hi Alison, old codger again. I went back to your left-hand position lesson. I must have missed that lesson. It turns out my thumb position is wrong. I hold it right in the thumb crutch, unlike what you recommend. Due to my age and limited wrist movement, I will have to continue in the current position. Think I will, over time, try to lower the crutch, allowing space underneath the back of the board.

Old codger, the previous message, do you se hard copies of the courses. I live on the isles of lewis and down loading is very poor, more like impossible. Do you do hard copies.

I dont Im afraid - we dont to keep the costs as low as they are. As im completely self-finding, having an extremely low volume printed professionally more than triples the cost of everything along with the shipping costs which just makes it impossible. The files are very small, so once they are downloaded (really shouldnt take long even with poorer internet speeds), you have them on your computer/device forever with no need to have internet access - unless you want to watch any of the videos that accompany the lessons.

Hi Alison, I am trying to sort out a more accurate bowing technique. It's tends to wonder when I start a new exercise. Also more accurate timing. Be pleased when I get on Gypsy fire fly. I have slso bought the book of tunes from you.

Keep at it - these are all things that do improve in time naturally (as long as youre aware obs). Playing in front of a mirror can help keep your bowing on track more and playing to a metronome will help tighten up your rhythm/timing so its aways bang on.

Hi Alison the old codger again. Just looked at purchasing your complete course. It says, that zip file. I only use my phone, will that be ok to download? I did down load the course 1 to 10 ok

Im not sure if phones will open zip files to be honest - the books are designed to be opened in a larger format or printed out. I guess you could manage on your phone, but it wouldnt be ideal as they are quite small

Hi Alison, old codger, I missed the 29/03/34, at 22.00. Bit late for me. I have started gypsy fire fly. When playing my hand still aches after 5 mins, although I've been playing from November 2023. Is this normal.

After ten years of playing the violin, it's not the violin that shakes when I attempt either wrist or arm vibrato. It's my bow hand that shakes! 😒 But that problem goes away when I do a fake finger vibrato. 😊🎻 BTW: I still play the soprano, alto and tenor recorders regularly. 🙂 🎶
