Mike, I'd like to see how you appeal to self-assembly as a possible pathway for abiogenesis. My PhD relied heavily on self-assembly of organic molecules and I'm very pessimistic towards this as a potential starting point for life without some aspect of design.
@ravissary79 Жыл бұрын
Indeed, the math is killer against this working because if layers upon layers of hurdles tgat must be overcome, and the structural functionality that must be attained by the end of the process. Abiogenesis research has been a dead end for decades. People just come up with different speculations on why THEIR Miller Eury experiment is better, meanwhile they use intelligence to circumvent the natural destruction to their byproducts wgich they assembled from synthetic components not naturally found together in the environment simulated, and their best byproducts, once carefully cultivated and protected, aren't even functional. And no I'm no math expert, but I'm savvy enough to know that whwn you have layers of different improbabilitues stacked up, the hypothetical success rate plummets to make the lottery look like a garantee by comparison.

I would like to recommend for the person asking about women in leadership in the Church to consider N. T. Wright's thoughts on this. He does not share the view that the passage in 2 Timothy is establishing a rule against women in leadership over a man. Rather, this passage refers to the sort of silence one observes in order to learn from another. Since the Greek culture to whom Paul is writing is inundated with uneducated women usurping those with a better understanding of the gospel, Paul is arguing that these specific women need to first learn from the elders before they are capable of being teachers.

I don't agree on everything inspiring philosophy says or believes. But we agree in Christ alone for salvation. And that our determinations of unbiblical doctine is to point to the bible for evidence. And that's enough for me to recognize him with great respect. As for the 1st point about rapture, just because the word isn't in the bible doesn't mean the idea isn't communicated, like the trinity, word's not there but the idea is clearly communicated.
@ArcticBlits Жыл бұрын
I think his argument about the rapture not being in the Bible was more about the concept and teaching is not in scripture.

@ArcticBlits well, we know it is written in 1 thessalonians 4:15-17 and is often used to justify the rapture position So, there is a place for the doctrine to exist from. Whether it should be extrapolated from that or not is up to those individuals. James Tour is not arguing for a divine cause for the origin of life. What he's arguing is that we are completely lacking in support for hypotheses of abiogenesis. There's no reason in principal that origin of life needs to be so binary: either (i) direct divine intervention; or (ii) modern hypotheses about abiogenesis. The origin of life could be something completely different.

yo! prospective presby here.. do you have any reason why you interpret the john 6 passage to be talking about communion and not simply believing/abiding in Christ for salvation?
@marlena. Жыл бұрын
@@gigenaia John 6 is not directly about communion like the last supper but they do connect with eachother, just like it connects with the manna in the old testament. Eating the bread at communion is symbolic for accepting The Bread that came from heaven which is Christ sacrifice. He says he is the bread of life and that the bread He wil give for the world (as a payment for sins) is His body. At communion Christians remember that sacrifice through the sharing of bread and wine, that stand as a symbol for the body and blood of Christ.
@malcolmlayton2050 Жыл бұрын
Always good to reference the old testament shadows of these things ... like the priest sharing in the sacrifice by consuming part of it and that the shed blood was not allowed to pass outside of the temple environment ... the concept of Christians being both priest and the temple makes it an interesting comparison as we share in the sacrifice in that we eat the 'flesh' and the 'blood' is taken into the temple by drinking

For well over 300 years (ever since Newton vs Leibniz) we have defined 0 and 1 (and their geometric counterparts) as follows: 0 = not-necessary 0D = not-necessary 1 = necessary 1D = necessary (Newton won so above are his definitions. Newton conflated "natural" with "necessary" and was largely ignorant of Geometry.) A year ago quantum physics proved that Leibniz was actually correct (the universe is "not locally real") which looks like this: 0 = necessary 0D = necessary 1= not-necessary 1D = not-necessary Since Mathematics > Physics > Chemistry > Biology... the implications of the definitions of 0 and 1 changing are world altering. "Only the zero-of yourself is necessary" is now a true statement. That's neat to think about. A little over a year ago the zero-of yourself was not-necessary. See how the facts change over time? Newton really set humanity back with his conflated definitions. Zero is the most important number in mathematics and is both a real and an imaginary number (this side/other side) with a horizon through it. It's geometric counterpart zero-dimensional space is the most important dimension in physics and is both a real and an imaginary dimension (this side/other side) with an event horizon through it. Quarks are zero-dimensional color-charged electricity and the Monad is the zero-dimensional space binding our quarks together with the strong force; the hue-monad (or soul). 3D = humanoid 0D = hue-monad (read Leibniz's "Monadology")

Yeah on spirit vs soul, spirit often speaks to vital anima... breath, blood, theyre metaphors or signs of spirit for a reason. But they may also be poetically associated with the way new agers talk about your aura, vibration, etc. As such colloquially we speak of team spirit, the zeitgeist, etc. An OT model of life and death is God sculpted man from matter, then breathed into him His own SPIRIT, and together these became a living soul. So mind/identity/will arises from combining the right matter (flesh) and triggering/animating vitality. Destroying someone's body prevents it from functioning such that it can facilitate the activity of the spirit, allowing the soul to actively, relationally manifest. But all three aspects effect eachother. By seperating body and spirit the soul then dies. This is why resurrection is the desured end state, not ghostly existence. But this poses a problem for understanding comtinuity of existence post death with Jesus prior to resurrection. Im not sure how best to understand how this works. The easy answer is to say that Genesis isnt being metaphysically precise.

minute 8:00, IP says that "there is no rapture in the Bible." Muslims use this same argument to say there is no Trinity because Trinity is not in the Bible. While the word may not be in the Bible, it is taught, but you cannot tell them this; they dismiss and ignore any argument you provide to support the Trinity. Their argument against the Trinity will be much like, if not exactly like IPs arguments against the rapture.
@williambillycraig1057 Жыл бұрын
@@DaneilT You helped show two of the three Jehovahs, but not a Trinity, and of course, Jews, Muslims, Mormons, and JWs will push back on the Genesis passage as they would with the John 1:1 passage. Also, I believe there is proof as well for the teaching of a pre-trib rapture. Still think IP is a great Christian, I just disagree with him on this issue.
@williambillycraig1057 Жыл бұрын
Thank you, Daniel. You are right; it is "hard to push back on the John 1:1 passage," but they do push back. I have spoken to JWs, Mormons, Muslims, and Oneness Pentecostals, who push back whenever this passage comes up. They have to push back or admit they are wrong, but if they are wrong. If they are wrong and God is three in one, they should logically become Trinitarians. Still, they do not admit they are wrong, so we, the Trinitarians, must be wrong according to them. So, to defend their view, they must say that we misread the Scripture, they must build strawmen arguments, they must ignore our arguments and say silly things like "the word Trinity is not in the Bible," it was a made up word that came into being well after the close of the New Testament. They do the same for our Old Testament examples of the Trinity, and IP seems to do the same in his pushback against the Rapture.
@williambillycraig1057 Жыл бұрын
@@DaneilT Thank you, Daniel. I think the major issue we will probably have is that of the Church and Israel. I believe God will again focus on Israel after the Church age, Romans 11:25-29. "For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: "The Deliverer will come out of Zion, And He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob; For this is My covenant with them, When I take away their sins." Concerning the gospel they are enemies for your sake, but concerning the election they are beloved for the sake of the fathers. For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable." As I see it, when "the fullness of the Gentiles has come in," this marks the Rapture of the Church, leaving only Isreal and the Earth Dwellers for the Day of the Lord. At the end of the tribulation, the wicked will be taken from among the tribulation saints and the believing Jewish remnant, a second rapture if you will, but this time of the wicked. I believe this is what Matthew 24:36-44 alludes to. The rapture of the wicked, sadly, includes many people in the visible Church, those promised to be left in the tribulation, for example, Revelation 2:22-23. After the snatching up of the wicked, Jesus states in Mark 13:24-26 that "after that tribulation" those alive at that time will "see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory," "then He will send His angels, and gather together His elect from the four winds, from the farthest part of earth to the farthest part of heaven," Mark 13:27. The elect here is not the Church but the Elect nation of Israel. If this is true, then Jesus' conditional promise in Luke 21:34-36 makes sense. That there will be those who are counted worthy will escape the trial that will come over the whole earth and stand before the Son of Man. This passage naturally fits with John 14:3-4, that He "will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also." This also fits well with the promise to the Church of Revelation 3:10, where the Church that kept His Word and remains alert will be taken out of the world before the time of Jacob's Trouble begins. Thank you for your dialog and for reading this; I know it is a bit long. God bless

Yes, I believe in the Resurrection of Christ. But so what? I am a man of unclean lips, and that which I know I should do, I do not, and that which I hate, I do! When did I ever feed the hungry, or give drink to the thirsty? When did I ever visit the sick, or those who are in prison? Maybe a few times in my life, but not many. That makes me a goat! How many have I caused to stumble through arrogance or selfishness? I deserve a millstone, not a crown. I read His Word almost daily, but do I do it? Fat chance. Keith Green said it well: My heart is hard, and my prayers are cold. So I guess I am not one of the elect, or I would behave better. BTW, my soteriology is like this: Faith without works is dead, but works without faith are filthy rags.

Jesus in Gospel of Matthew 18 explains this with parable ( under my expalantion ) . // You have debt towards God that you cant never pay. Thats why you need to give your life to Him. In Him you then have a life. Trying to do something keeps you out of salvation. Because if you are balanced strong person who is able to keep it together you think you can do it and that you then deserve it. ( you dont need Jesus even you confess you need because you fulfill your own made religious acts ) Paul was blameless according to law but counted it all as trash if he just could be found to be IN Christ. Spiritual pride just causes you to condemn others ( you demand them to repay to you their "debt" ) and keeps you away from real relationship with God ( and them )( only thing that can safe you ) // 23“Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24As he began the settlement, a man who owed him ten thousand bags of gold h was brought to him. 25Since he was not able to pay, the master ordered that he and his wife and his children and all that he had be sold to repay the debt. 26“At this the servant fell on his knees before him. ‘Be patient with me,’ he begged, ‘and I will pay back everything.’ 27The servant’s master took pity on him, canceled the debt and let him go. 28“But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred silver coins. i He grabbed him and began to choke him. ‘Pay back what you owe me!’ he demanded. 29“His fellow servant fell to his knees and begged him, ‘Be patient with me, and I will pay it back.’ 30“But he refused. Instead, he went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt. 31When the other servants saw what had happened, they were outraged and went and told their master everything that had happened. 32“Then the master called the servant in. ‘You wicked servant,’ he said, ‘I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to. 33Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?’ 34In anger his master handed him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed. 35“This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.”

Joh. 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might *know* thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. /very few people really know Him. Even though that they are sealed and be saved in the end. But they are not yet fully IN eternal Life that is possible ( if you dont happen to have really special character e.g humility ) through painful process of dying to self, total surrender, becoming weak and small, and totally in need of Him, becoming like little children, "loosing independence" ("life that you think you have but is death")obtaining Fathers Love and care and Life that is person/

Jesus paid what we owe. “It is finished,” is declaring debt paid, is it not?
