Yes! I'm so happy someone pointed it out, the Old Gods of Asgard do in fact exist in real life!!!! They are called Poets of The Fall, and I ask y'all to PLEASE go look for their stuff, and show them some love!!! They are horrifically unknown and underrated here in the states, and they deserve SO MUCH MORE LOVE! BEST BAND EVERRRRRR!!!!

Playing the first game a couple of years ago. Is how I found out about poets of the fall. Control and Alan Wake apparently exist in the same universe. As the janitor is the same one from the oldest house. Yeah the music is great I saw them perform a couple of weeks back they were excellent.

Omg thank you for saying that. Listened to them from a few years ago today and didn't know why old gods of asgards lead singer looked so much like Marko and then when watching the game awards I was like "no facking way" I haven't played alan wake 2 and now I wanna play it as I just didn't know.

This scene was by far the most artistic game scene I've ever seen. It's funny, offers actually good gameplay scenes, offers insanely great audio visual experience AND at the same time tells player the full story of Alan Wake 1. Like how to hell did they manage pull this all out. Control and Alan Wake 1 had awesome music scenes, but this goes so much beyond what it did. Remedy really has talent conveying experience to gaming. Also gotta love the collaboration Poets of the fall has with Remedy's guys. I suppose Old Gods of Asgard is the _only_ band ever spawned from musician knowing game maker in person. Well POTF kinda launched from Max Payne after all, so it's kinda cool they've evolved this way. 11/10 scene :) Oh and when have we ever seen one of the actual game devs in such musical scene dancing too. It's hilarious to see Sami Järvi in the end scene.

Those objects you referred to as “cuffs” are the wall decor that is in his “writers room” with the owl in the middle. Hence the typewriter on the desk in front of it.
@8bitterror
@8bitterror 11 ай бұрын
I realized that! ❤️ But thank you for commenting. I was referencing the symbolism behind the furniture, especially as the "set" is a bare bones version of that room and therefore certain things have been specifically chosen to be included. The fact that they chose an owl (wisdom/nocturnal) and the windows (eyes/soul/flashlight ring) is very symbolic and telling. The viewer's comment about cuffs was a little in-joke for me, as I talk about handcuffs a lot on my streams! 🤭

Your take away that this act was about men (Like, specifically men? Or is it just because Alan is a dude? I'm not sure, it's not really relevant either way) being taken down by their own ego was novel, I genuinely have never heard that and I'm kind of wondering where you got that idea from. I see the game as a whole is more about creatives and their tendency toward self-destructive habits, among other things. The most humble, selfless nobody in the known universe could go to Cauldron Lake and the Dark Presence would have tried to use and manipulate them to its own ends, provided they had enough creative talent, and if they didn't, they would become Taken. The song itself doesn't need much interpretation, or even leave much room for it (save, perhaps the Chorus and the verse of about the Clicker), It's Alan's Life. The things that happened to get him to this point in the story, for those who are picking up this game from Control, rather than the first game. Just my thoughts, or a shallow skimming of them, I'd love to get into a more in depth discussion about the story and its themes, but none of my irl friends have a particular interest in the game, and writing out my thoughts takes a lot of time, because I'm fairly particular about putting my thoughts to proverbial paper. If people are going to read what I write, I want the words to say what I mean, leaving less room for it to be misconstrued. Also, I don't write many short comments, which I think is more of a symptom than a cause. ^.^
@8bitterror
@8bitterror 11 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for the well thought-out response! Alan is a self-absorbed, egotistical narcissist, and my interpretation of the story (and its larger themes) is that it's an exploration into the dark side of the "creative genius" character and how society enables bad behavior in creatives but also punishes them for it when they don't produce what we/society demand. In AW1, for example, his ego prevents him from being a good husband, and this manifests externally as the disappearance of his wife and the subsequent torture of being impotent to rescue her. In a way, the paranormal is punishing him for his egotism, because if he'd been a better partner (and also if he'd been a "better writer" as demanded by his agent/society as a whole and produced more novels), he wouldn't be in this situation. I hope this answers your question!

You have no clue about the story of Alan Wake got nothing to do with ego. He was a writer who was looking to get away from the writing life style and decided to go to bright falls to get away from it all and he got tricked by a dark entity that wanted to use him to get into the real world and Alan has been locked in a battle of writing a story that will free him. All of the weird stuff is the entity trying to mess with Alan that's why Alan has always got that completely baffled look on his face. Nothing to do with ego Mr Door is the entity.

LOL how so? You might not be familiar with my channel, but I tend to focus on character and story in my playthroughs. As a writer, the underlying themes and meanings of a story fascinate me - especially in a game like Alan Wake 2! There's a lot to explore, much of which is cerebral, psychological, and open to interpretation.
