In America such problems on the job are so common, we have a saying: "Too many chiefs and not enough braves." Everyone does think they know best how things should happen. Part of the reason is that Europeans (and Americans, who are of European ancestry for the most part) are descended from the Celtic tribes which were all over Europe for thousands of years. The Celts had some great qualities - for a long time they were generally peaceful, with a matriarchal society. They believed in reincarnation and were extremely brave in battle (they would even paint themselves blue and go naked into war, screaming like crazy people and attacking the enemy ferociously and heedlessly to protect their people. They did not care if they died or not, saying, "I will always come back!") But the problem began over time when the Celtic leaders and warriors made a habit (over the thousands of years) to compete in bragging. Ego, as in everything, snuck in the back door. They began to develop arrogance because they did not catch the bragging habit as a problem in time. The tribal leaders would brag boastfully, taking the bragging (they thought) to an art form. Whomever could boast the most and prove their boast was true, was highly respected. Today, many generations later, we still tend to be arrogant as a people, in comparison to other cultures. Americans have terrible trouble getting along in too many cases. Most of us do not even know how all this started, the habitual attitude to willingly start conflict over nearly any little thing. We simply grow up imitating our parents' habits of thought and emotion. I am living in New Mexico, however, where the Tewa tribal people have their culture, and they take humility as a primary value. They talk differently, behave differently - the difference is very striking!
