Looking at Trump's first assassination attempt, you'll notice that right after the shots were fired, everyone's attention was immediately focused on either the shooter, Trump on the stage, or the other victims. Security guards quickly surrounded Trump, but his head was still clearly visible and exposed. I'm not sure if those security agents were prepared for the possibility of multiple assassins trying to take advantage of the chaos from the first round of shots and attacking from other directions. If they had been thinking ahead, they could have whisked him into a bulletproof vehicle and disappeared from the crowd within minutes, before anyone could fully grasp what had just happened. Ideally, there should have been a few bulletproof vehicles parked behind or next to him, ready to pull him inside and drive away if such a scenario were to unfold.
