Great vid :D I remember once in ship simulator extremes, there was a mission that started with a little runner to get out into an anchored supply vessel in the middle of the harbour. Took control, then headed out to sea to dock to an oil rig. I thought the runner might come in handy later, so I took it in tow. Upon exiting the harbour, the level reloads, and you're out at sea. It didn't reload for the runner though, so all of a sudden, I was tethered by the tow line to a vessel back in harbour, and the game freaked out and I was immediateley dragged to the bottom of the ocean :P Looks like ship sims have come a long way since ^^

I have to admit I was perplexed at the way you went about the harbour entrance exercise. I was expecting the bow to be swung to port once it was level with the entrance with the stern swung to starboard. But then I have never done it for real so what would I know. Interesting video, have a like.
@CasualNavigation
@CasualNavigation Жыл бұрын
I thrust to starboard as I knew the current and vessel swing would all push the pow to port anyway and I was anticipating countering it.

I enjoyed the look at the product from a professional (it's been so long on the desktop simulator side for us fans that any good ship sim has come out, so this at least scratches that itch) and I liked both the insights from you and that you answered questions during the session. Given the type of trip it is, I think it is nice to hear the conversation. This actually made good car listening as well. Well done!

PS. As a pilot - do You actually sometimes take control of the ship? Like take the wheel and steer yourself, or issue orders to the helmsman and the engine? How do You know, how the ship handles if this is the first time you "drive" it? How do You know the inertia? How it reacts to the wind or current? Is it all reactive, so You basically play the safe ball and react to what you see, or do you take advantage of the multiple other ships you piloted and how they handle, to, sort of, estimate, how this particular one will handle? You got to have balls to steer unknown ships into tight spaces like that on the vid :)

This reminds me a lot of doing a crosswind landing, but at 1/100th the speed in every sense; your shop reacts much slower than an airliner, and airliners aren't exactly agile planes!

Hi mate, I bought a Subscription to Nautis upon Release. Being a retired Mariner of 35 years I was quite disappointed when it dropped. I had zero ambition to learn how to berth, Depart, and basically all Harbour work. I was more interested in the delivery/return side of things Worldwide. The last time I booted the Sim up it had not improved much and still played like a game with tasks n crap. With nowhere to change your experience level in SIM. So I found this to be quite bloody boring to be honest. They assured me that Free World Roaming would be one of the things to address so we could actually Ship and not just practising in Harbours. That was a year ago. Appreciate you showing us where it's at mate. Has the Free Roam been added as yet and ''Contracts'' ? Thanks for handy update, Take care from Australia.

Next live stream will ne big money. You need to announce it earlier. You also need to make it long enough for people to join; plan on the first 90 minutes being a ramp to peak time, the last 30 you wind down to close it out. It's like a job, kinda.

As a pilot (aviation), Im curious what mechanism these ships use to determine speed (including side to side). GPS seems like it might not be accurate/reliable enough, but maybe I'm wrong. And onboard sensors, like on deck or submerged seem like they might only be able to provide an estimated average. If anyone has any info on this, I'm pretty curious. Thanks!
@VHyuro
@VHyuro 9 ай бұрын
The "Speed to Water" determine by Electromagnetic sensors below water level. The "Speed over Ground" determine by GPS alone. Unlike aviation, ships are bigger, travel at slower speed (10-15 knots average, up to 25 for express container ship, up to 40 for warship) and take longer time to change course so the accuracy of GPS is acceptable. Plus there is DGPS in case you need more accuracy/reliable like coastal sailing or berthing at port. The old way is: tie knots at the same length on a rope and drop it to the water, how many knots was pull to water mean that much speed the ship going hence nowaday ship speed called Knots (nautical mile/hour)
