They sound Great ! Guess that’s why Klipsch has been basically building the same speakers for over 75 years ! There are no leaps in sound engineering since then. The old speakers sound as good or better than new ones . Love them !

Astounding, after listening to this, I am thinking, what is sound reproduction quality is about. It is not just about flat re-production(response) abilities of the speaker. Look at the timbre these speakers are able to produce, each and every plucking and the instruments' native activity sounds(like plucking, hand rubbing, finger scratching/rubbing etc. ) are so much well reproduced. Coupled with that, the KILLER Looks :) what else could you want for. Wish more and more consumers become aware of the quality and the timbre these speakers produce and we see more of such work coming in. You could listen to these speakers for hours together without fatigue.

Im always a fan of horn loaded spkrs. They're loud and consume less amplification and it lets the sound play in a sweet sonic amplification level. Don't have to crank all the way up till reach the point of distortion. And horns do sounds more immersive. Like swimming in the endless sonic field.

Hello! I was going to be using those altec horns with the klipschorn bass bin. Do you know if these horns can go up to 20k hz, to be used in a 2 way? Can't seem to find a frequency range on this horn and you seemed to be doing it that way. Thank you, appreciate it!

ElvislaD It seems like horn system owners/manufacturers tend to showcase their systems using “horns”..... brass, woodwinds and percussion which behaves often like a horn in some sense. I think this choice is made to conceal the inherent coloration of horn systems.

@FlowithdaGo3 жыл бұрын
Easy solution: Play at a lower volume level and you won't get the same problem with standing waves and other distortions from the room.
@alanrogs39903 жыл бұрын
@@FlowithdaGo Doesn't a proper room for these types of speakers need to be huge? Even bigger than the room these are playing in.
@FlowithdaGo3 жыл бұрын
@@alanrogs3990 If you're playing loud, yes. Lower sound levels equals less energy in the room, and therefore the room doesn't matter *that* much.

Too bad Live Sound Design didn’t gain traction, I’m not sure how you’d get the people who love music and the means to buy them to become aware of this wonderful product. The craftsmanship involved in building these gorgeous Ubangi cabinets is ridiculous. If memory serves me right, he’s also using Great Plains Audio lower range drivers, maybe 516Gs?

Please take this as positive constructive criticism. I was ready to give a thumbs up until I realized 2/3rd's of the video is "Listening" to the system. You CAN NOT tell what a system sounds like with out being there, period. Even if you had used professional mic's and recording equipment and were able to get close to the quality of the original recording (you cant) the person playing it back on KZbin is only going to have the quality of their own speakers (plus the room reverberation where you recorded it added in). Just stick to the interviews so we can learn from the designers and the decisions making process they used in choosing what they did.

Love how people say sounds limp, coloured, bright or lacks bass, the mids are +6db to much .....you are listening to the speakers on KZbin that's been compressed to the max....I will place a Internet bet that most of the people that comment on this never even heard a system this capable or close for that matter, hell bet most hear a $2000 Klipsch from Best Buy with $1000 surround sound receiver running in stereo and think that's top of line high quality sound.

Amazing system. Now, unfortunately the problem with almost all demos of "vintage" horns systems is that they never use complex demanding material, ideally a full symphony orchestra. They are great with 5 instruments, but how about 100? I am sure they will be - in terms of sheer scale, at least, such systems are difficult to match.

I know this recording and sorry but the sound is obviously coloured. The midrange is entirely too forward… 'squawky' is the word. It seems very dynamic and clear though, just needs a little EQing… maybe some work on the crossover will fix it.
@britishcomposers7 жыл бұрын
Impossible to judge over the internet through secondary speakers, but I never found the LP12 to be suited to horns; colouration in the lower mid/upper bass being the primary issue, plus too mid-dominant sounding with not much bite/attack at the extremes.
@socksumi6 жыл бұрын
SSF... you are correct. This has "horn" colorations quite obviously.
@bartvanransbeeck13412 жыл бұрын
These horns have efficiency of around 50% reference, know that a 90db/1w is 1% reference efficient....so most of these 'low efficient' speakers do compress dynamics

alot of modern music is recorded and mastered wierdly where alot of instraments get muddied together and no matter what you play them on it will sound like crap because thats just the way it was mixed. It sounds fine for listening and enjoying but when your listening for detail and accuracy its just not in the original recording.

NO TOP END on those...period. Coming right out of the driver on an Altec 288G into a standard tube, you're already down -10 dB before it even hits the throat. Efficient, yes..."good?" No. Polar plots of these and the 1502s show "fingering" of the top end with 15 KC down -16 dB on axis with each cell's mouth, similar to the rolloff you get with a modern CD horn. THen there's the issue of the Altecs' famous harmonic distortion due to the squared corners...higher thrid harmonic production than even a lousy early SS amps of the late '60s. Want multicells? You'd be FAR better off with old Community 2X5s and JBL 2440s. Also, the bottom end cuts off on the "Ubangi" bottom bin around 5O Hz as the horn unloads, just like the A2 and A4s. This is not "high fidelity;" this is "colored sound" reminiscent of hi-fi in the '50s, including Paul's corner horn. What used to make up for the lumpy freq response and distortion was the dynamic range then impossible with direct radiators. That's been overcome with better driver designs today and gobs of clean MOSFET power available fairly cheaply. However, a full horn system WILL save on your power bill, a fact not overlooked by owners of large dance halls I've known! A pair of JBL 4331As driven by a Hafler DH-220s would romp all over this rig in all catagories for this program material.
@mikaelmllersnnichsen5398 жыл бұрын
+DeserT BoB All talk of frequency extension, harmonic distortion, horn shortcomings and what not; that's the (highly compressed) song of marketing BS that's supposed to convert us poor saps into avid buyers of products that suffer the fate of an overriding and now long-standing tendency to squeeze sound from speakers the size of milk cartons and amps of newer technology. Any missionary efforts would be better spent (instead) advising people to use their ears, and whether what's heard resemble live acoustic sound - insofar sonic authenticity is sought. Upon listening to the speakers of above video the interviewer exclaims "Super, super sound." Oh, let's just tell him what you wrote above and find out if he'll consider changing his statement. Surely the man must be a brown-noser or someone who has no concept of how to assess good sound, right? Well, go figure; I'd rather go by his hands-on impressions than your hypothetical scribblings. Btw, I like MOSFET-driven amps since I own a 30 watt Class-A MOSFET amp myself, and it's driving my 105+ dB horn speakers just brilliantly..
