Live Steam First Run

The engine is a brass kit from Accucraft called the Ruby 0-4-0, and it uses butane, & distilled H20 to create pressure in a mini boiler. The kit was upgraded with a few parts from stock. A Summerlands chuffer replaced the exhaust stack. The water fill is equipped with a Goodall valve and the blow off valve was upgraded. A knuckle coupler for the rear in order to pull my rolling stock was also necessary. A pressure gauge and finally the Ruby is equipped with a brass throttle handle for ease of manual control.

A trick when first firing up. Put the Johnson bar in either forward or reverse, and slightly crack the throttle valve (very slightly) When it heats up, the water condensation in the cylinders will get forced out as the cylinders heat up

What safety valve did you replace with? I’ve seen many people say they’ve done it but when I called accucraft they said there aren’t any that would fit the thread or steam dome. Great video!

Yep, they sure need getting used to. It’s great to see someone run steam for the first time. Live steam is also more susceptible to grades, even small grades, than electric trains. I suppose that’s why some people put a radio in their loco to control the throttle. Where did you get your knuckle coupler mount?

It was installed when I bought the loco. I think it is an Accucraft part.
