Hi the nail on the head! We just started going back to church, 3rd week coming up. Not every one likes the new “normal”, so they want use to continue placing the service online, but now we are trying to do streaming. New territory for us Neophytes. So far we’ve been using the mic on the camera, but it’s not the best sound. In the past we’ve tried to feed our house mix in to the camera, but they said the vocals were terrible, off pitch and too loud... Your explanation of having a separate mix for the streaming made sense. We’ll give it a try. Thanks Rocky Starland South Haven First Baptist Church, Michigan

Here is the solution I am using right now as we start back this week. It allows for only one sound engineer to mix, but you get a good mix for both the house and the stream. Check it out and see which one is the best option for you. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pn7RkpyreJpoiLs

This is exactly what I was looking for. I just installed an M32R Live in to our church and was looking to set up a seperate mix for our live stream. I have the in house sounding great, now I need to get the live stream audio to the same level. Coming from an analogue board I was limited to one mix (the 2 AUX sends were already used for our monitor mixes) so once people started coming back in house I've been struggling with trying to get some sort of balance. The best explanation I've seen yet. We have an X32 Compact in our church. The guy that engineered the steam to facebook is no longer in the church and didn't tell anyone how he engineered the feed and he was having to adjust the mix before every church service. Since he left, the mix is dreadful. I have experience as a sound engineer but I am more old school and haven't had time to get into the digital world. I find the whole "page-opening" to get from one place to the next, terribly confusing of course. I like having the entire console and controls laid out so I can see everything. Well, with this compact, that's just not going to happen and I understand that. I watched your video and it was helpful but I'll need to go through it several times to change my way of thinking through the digital console. I appreciate your explanation but sure wish I had someone right there with me to walk me through the process. That's not possible so I'll watch your video at the church while working with the console to see if I can locate how the last guy engineered the sends to create the stereo mix and send that signal to the PC for facebook streaming.

Thanks for the encouragement. Getting comfortable with a console isn’t always the easiest, especially when you are trying to figure out a previous persons setup. It never hurts to save the setup to a new scene and then you can begin making changes in your non-service times until you get everything nailed down. You can just reload your previous scene for service times. Here are two things for you. 1) this video is a full walk through of my setup and you might find it beneficial in creating your new scene. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pn7RkpyreJpoiLs 2) I do offer remote consultation which can provide a “person along with you” to help along the way and figure out what the previous person setup. This is a great video! Thanks for your knowledge and willingness to share your expertise! So far, we are fairly low tech and we are not live streaming. However, we just started back meeting in our building and are recording on a single, Canon XA30 camcorder. No switcher of any kind. We are working toward improvements but that is going to take money and time. However, we do have an X32 mixer! Our camera has 2 xlr audio inputs and I am wondering if I can send a mix from our X32 to our Canon XA30. If this isn't possible or optimal, another option would be to send the mix out to a separate computer and then add the audio to video in postproduction. It just seems that if we could directly input to the camera it would save a step.
@AllamHouse4 жыл бұрын
You are on the right path for sure. All you need to do is route your stream output to go out two additional XLR outputs and connect them to your camera. Then you will have the stream audio going into your camera. At that point you can either record it or push it wherever you want to go.

Let's say you built your stream on BUS 9/10... (1) If you want these to go out some XLR's on the back of the console you can go to Routing > Outs and confirm that Bus 9 is set to Output 9 and Bus 10 is set to Output 10. You can now plugin XLRs to take your signal to your video switcher or camera (2) If you want this to go out some AUX out 1/4" or RCAs on the back of the console you go to Routing > AUX and then set the BUS 9/10 to the desired AUX outputs. Connect your cables to the back of the console and you are good to go (3) If you want your signal to go out USB and into your computer, you follow the information in this video and make sure your BUS 9/10 are routed (through the Routing > User Outs) to User Out 1/2. Then go to Routing > Card and make sure User Outs 1-8 is selected for the Card output 1-8. Then, connect your USB A-B cable to the back of the console in the X-USB slot and your streaming software will recognize it when you select X-USB as your audio source. *Note, If you are on a Windows machine you need to install the X-USB driver from the Behringer website before this will work.

I want to leave my card out for multitrack recording as as such i dont wanna touch that. Please advise. Thank you.

You can use a Matrix to copy your mains (or other buses) into and then route them out your 1/4” AUX out on the back of the console. This video walks you through the steps, but you will have to modify it slightly to route to your desired AUX outs instead of the USB that I discuss. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iImwcpVujbOYr9U

Yes, that is the correct video that I was discussing. It became a progression during the start of the covid era. Initially, people just needed a way to connect their audio to the stream. Then they realized it didn’t sound great so I started discussing AUX Bud and Matrix approaches. Honestly, this video here is the most common approach that I still use in my venue today since we only have one sound engineer to handle both FOH and Stream mixes. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pn7RkpyreJpoiLssi=g0PWIYbtG8pbXH7t

Great video. Thank you. If you’re not going to use post fader, what determines the level going out to the USB. I am having a hard time getting a loud enough output through the USB. Is the level going out through the USB determined by the individual streaming channel levels?
@AllamHouse10 ай бұрын
The audio path hits the preamp which is the biggest factor to your overall stream volume. After that you use the signals to build a mix into a MixBUS (pre or post fader) and those “sends on fader” levels will build the mix into the MixBUS. Typically O see that peoples amps on their PA are turned up all the way so they have to find a place to limit the room volume and they incorrectly do this at the gain. This action trickles down to impact any monitors, FX and any live stream you are building on the console (or even a DAW). This video here describes this more. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y4PNgWZ_gKuZp68si=GM84bIbqfc5Eindz

Thank you very much for your videos, they are extremely helpful.... Quick question.. Isn't still stereo if for Example from your video...I route output 5&6 to the same mix bus? Rather then routing output 5 to mix bus 5 and output 6 to mix bus 6? Can't we just route output 5&6 to mix bus 5?
@AllamHouse3 жыл бұрын
Using a singular output would only provide you with a mono signal. If you sent this to some speakers you would either need to run your speakers in series (daisy chain) or you would need to duplicate your MixBUS 5 so you could feed both L and R speakers. The signal would be the same in both so you would not have the ability to pan. This is either called bridged mono or mixed mono... not stereo. Using the MixBUS 5 and 6 allows you to pan them hard left and right creating width in your audio field and this allows you to pan individual inputs within this entire field which will translate through to the speakers you connect them to... assuming your speakers are setup in a stereo fashion.

At 5:10 - 5:24, how did you create that band reverb that you already have. All by effects are in Bus 13 - Bus 16. Basically, I am asking for how I can move my vintage reverb from Bus 13 to what you pulled up in 5:10 - 5:24 as an example. Once I figure out how to do this, I will also be able to send my vintage reverb through to my live stream
@AllamHouse4 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you are unsure of how to change effects in the FX racks, is that correct? Or are you unsure of how to add them into your stream only and not go into your house mix?
@ailo144 жыл бұрын
AllamHouse the latter. I am unsure how to add it to stream only. I think if I could move vintage reverb to the two knobs you turn up in 5:10 above then I would have completed all the steps above. My problem is the vintage reverb is currently sitting in bus 13 so I have no way of sending reverb to my live stream bus which is currently bus 5 and 6. I was able to follow all your other instructions above just the sending effects to live stream above that I couldn’t do
@AllamHouse4 жыл бұрын
I see. Sending FX to your stream is just like sending an instrument. You will select the bus for stream (on the right side of the console), then hit sends on fader. Navigate to the 3rd layer on the left side where you gain access to the AUX ins and FX returns. You can add them into your stream at that point. Here is a video I made about setting up monitors which is the same process as building effects and I even cover adding FX to your monitor which is just like a stream. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKi8lIGfmq6GfJY

AllamHouse thx for the video. How do you know what effects is going into a particular Fx return? I only want to send the vintage reverb which is on bus 13 in to my live stream. So is that going to be the first two buttons out of the 8 Fx returns which you turned up in this video (between 5:10 - 5:24)?
@AllamHouse4 жыл бұрын
I see. The send (Bus 13-16) is mono, but the return is stereo so there are two faders (L/R) for each effect. Bus 13 is FX1 so you would use the first two returns that map to FX1 L and FX1R

Wonderful video! So helpful!! Question: How can we connect and record from the x32 Edit app on MacBook into Ableton on the same labtop without using the USB cable and without using Osculator?
@AllamHouse4 жыл бұрын
I'm glad the video was helpful. I want to cover a few things to help you understand the different tools you mention here. (1) X32 Edit is an app for remotely controlling the soundboard for mixing. This could be setup by either connecting a router to the soundboard and then your laptop (or iPad) could connect to that router and control the board, or you could connect a Cat5 cable directly between your computer and board. This would be the "remote control" port on the back of the board. (2) X32 Edit is NOT used for recording. The X-USB slot on the back of the board is setup to be used for recording into a DAW (digital audio workstation). In your message you mention Ableton which would be the DAW you are trying to use. You will have to connect the USB cable from the X-USB slot to the computer to get signal into Ableton. Here is a video I made that discusses this with Trackslive... kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYHVkpqQlN1qg7M (3) You mention Osculator and I am not sure what that is to be able to speak to using it or not using it. I do not use it in my setup.

When I was on a. windows machine I would have times that the computer would t recognize the console. I would have to reboot the console (while plugged into the laptop and that seemed to refresh the connection. On my MAC I typically have to select “Built-in Input” click apply, then go back and select X-USB. It isn’t a hardware or cable issue, just something to do with the cache within the computer and some “magic” inside the driver connectivity. That being said, you can use XLR outs and connect to an interface or a video switcher. Just keep in mind the interface will add an additional layer of analog to digital conversion and will have a gain/volume included which could be a source of troubleshooting in the future. Good luck.

We then use OBS for the video mix and stream to KZbin. The problem for us is that there is a super high-frequency, feedback-like sound that is constant. I cannot figure out what it is! I solo listen to the signal out of the mixer and there is no frequency/feedback issue, I've switched out all of the cables and made sure the other cameras feeding into ATEM are muted. Any thoughts? I'm tempted to start completely from scratch as I fear I might have switched around some routing going from a Matrix setup to this Aux send setup. Any ideas would be much appreciated!

We are running straight out of an X32 into an ATEM Studio HD which then goes into OBS and we do not have any issues like you mentioned. Monitoring out of the console is a good start, then you should be able to monitor out of your ATEM (headphone jack) and further you could monitor out of OBS on the laptop. I would try muting all channels on the console to see if the high pitch noise is coming from a specific input or just potentially a ground loop being created from device to device. Ballast Media (KZbin channel) has been doing some videos recently about the ATEM Mini that might be helpful.

@AllamHouse3 жыл бұрын
Assuming you are trying to get the onboard FX (reverbs or delays) recorded into your DAW you will need to think/do the following things. 1) keep in mind you only have 32 channels to send across USB. If you want to record an effect return it will be in stereo and take up 2 channels. This brings you down to 30 usable channels and so one per effect you want to record. 2) The easiest way (if you have two available outs to use) is go to Routing > Outs, set two outs (say 13/14) to be sourced by the Direct FX Out for your desired effect. Then set these outs in the user outs section so you can route them out your Card. I hope this helps and is not more confusing than the question.

We too are using the X32 to do FOH, Monitors & Live Streaming. Bus 1-4 are for the monitors with "Pre-EQ", but I cannot seem to set the "Post-Fader" s.t. I can control the volumes to the monitor from the X32 Bus surface faders. Did you do a video on this or can you provide advise?
@AllamHouse3 жыл бұрын
When you select the BUS and go to Home > Config and select the desired setup (pre fader, post fader, etc.). This will determine how your inputs interact with this BUS. To alter the setup of the actual BUS and how it is sent out you need to go to Routing > Outs. In this location you can set how the overall BUS interacts with its fader while being sent out to its desired location.

Very helpful video, thanks! If I assign a mix bus to card outputs 1&2 (which is what OBS uses for streaming) I lose the direct outputs on those channels right? I currently have mics on channels 1-16 on the card (corresponding to my local inputs 1-16) which I record directly in Reaper for later re-mixing. Do I need to move the mics from channels 1&2 to some other channels if I use 1&2 for the stream mix?

Hi so understanding this correctly, with this, you don’t need xlr cables connected on the back... right now the way we have been getting audio is with a monobus using a female-headphone jack cable going to the laptop using sling studio... this gets rid of all that and you don’t need xlrs?
@AllamHouse4 жыл бұрын
Correct. This will use the X-USB connection on the back of the console to connect directly to your computer (through a USB A-B cable). You will free up the XLR output and ideally step into a stereo stream.

Yes. When you hit the mute button, it is just after the preamp so it will mute the input in everything downstream. The AUX mix is a really great setup and if you want to customize it, here is a video of the setup I use at my church. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pn7RkpyreJpoiLs

Thank you so much for this video, may I have a question, how can we send the Mixbus to Matrix, please?
@AllamHouse2 жыл бұрын
Many people will send the MixBUS directly out to their streaming device, but if you want to send it to a Matrix you just select the desired matrix, hit sends on fader and then go to the MUS Master layer on the far left of the console and bring up the desired MixBUS into the Matrix. This video here discusses why and how I do this in my live stream. kzbin.info/www/bejne/b5LFg2utq5mUb8U

Thanks for the great video. I’m trying to do a simpler livestream from an X32. I created a feed in Aux 7 and wanted to add some reverb from Bus 13. Can the reverb be adjusted by channel or is it just a little reverb added to the entire Aux 7?
@AllamHouse2 жыл бұрын
The way the Send/Return FX work is by default they have a Bus (13-16) that you use the Sends on Fader feature to build the mix that goes into that FX rack. Then, on the left side of the console you have the returns for each rack. You can select your stream Bus, hit Sends on Fader and then add the desired FX return into that bus. Keep in mind the FX are stereo so you will diminish their actual affect when you sum it to mono going into a mono bus for your stream. If possible, use a stereo pair for your stream and this will provide a more standard experience for your listeners. I hope this helps.

It’s hard to say what you changed without looking at tour setup. I would start be checking the BUSes to make sure they are set properly for Pre/Post Fader depending on how you want. Then check that the routing for these channels is set properly with the right tap point in Routing>Outs. Thank you man, nice video. I want to ask about panning. If I create a stereo IEM (Behringer P1 XLR-L&XLR-R)for my bands could I pannin for them ?
@AllamHouse4 жыл бұрын
Typically people use a MixBus pair for stereo IEM and that setup will follow the panning used for your main mix. You can then run your XLRs out to your P1 and have a stereo IEM setup. Make sure to link your MixBus channels for a quick, easy setup.

This is great! Thank you so much, it's really helpful. I'm routing from the desk into an audio interface connected to the live stream and don't have a USB - can I use a standard xlr/quarter inch jack for this? If so, do I use an 'aux out' output or just an 'out' output? Will I still get stereo from one of these, or do I need 2 separate cables? Thanks!
@AllamHouse4 жыл бұрын
The goal of this setup is to remove the need for an audio interface and allow the console to do all the work. All you need is an older printer cable (USB A->B) and plug it into the back of the console in the X-USB slot and connect to your computer for streaming. If you want to continue using the interface you would route your MixBUS to go (physically) out whichever output you are sending to your interface. If you use XLR you will need two cables and if you use AUX outs you will need two cables in order to keep a stereo mix. For routing with XLR you will go to the ‘OUT’ tab and for aux you will go to the ‘AUX’ tab.

@@AllamHouse thank you so much, been setting it up this morning but as you said, it is only coming through the left ear. I presume that might be because I only have one cable connected, but it is very odd that even when I change the panning it is always only on the left side of the stream. When I tested it through the headphone port of the X32 it was fine however, so the problem must be on its way to the audio interface

I’d you have a stereo pair for tour stream, but only send one cable out of the console, you will only have a mono feed. Grab a second cable and make yet stereo mix happen.

Question, my church just purchased the X32 so the video is helpful btw. But we also use the usb out to connect the audio to the stream computer. I was told you need the most recent firmware update to be able to create a mix bus and then send that out as the stream audio, is this true or is it possible with an older firmware?
@AllamHouse3 жыл бұрын
You can do it with the old firmware, but it limits you to have to run your live stream bus mix on either MixBUS 1/2 or 9/10. Then your card outputs would either take outputs 1-8 or 9-16 across USB. Regardless (as mentioned in this video) the streaming computer needs to see your stream mix on USB 1/2 to function properly. With the newer firmware version (4.0 or newer) you can set and output to be routed to USB 1/2 so there is som e flexibility there. Please make sure you save tour scene to the board before upgrading your firmware, but the process is simple and only take a second (both to save tour scene and upgrade the firmware). kzbin.info/www/bejne/fWHFoombq86Fgck

Hi Allamhouse thanks again for your lessons. After watching so many videos, I am coming back to you to raise this alarm. I thought I was getting along with routing but it's getting me more confused and i really wish to start afresh on this issue on the x32, to under stand some important tabs under routing. Pls what is the difference between OUT (or Analog out on some) and XLR on the routing page? What do they really correspond to on mixer Also pls what is the difference between USER and CARD OUT and what do they correspond to on the x32 pls? My initial understanding is that card outputs are kinda digital and correspond to my respective AES outputs (I use s32 with x32). But when following up this lesson for matrixes, I don't understand why under CARD you would remap the expansion card 1-8 (first column) to user 1-8. Why didn't you map it to the regular AES 1-8. What is really the meaning of this USER pls?
@AllamHouse3 жыл бұрын
This is a great question and shows me you have a good grasp on the rest of the console. This question isn't one that beginners dive into. The old firmware versions required you to route inputs and outputs in blocks of 8, but they had to be in "like" inputs. So, you had to choose Local 1-8, or AES50A 1-8, etc. You were not able to select Local 1-6 and then AES50A channels for 7-8. With the release of firmware v4.0 (and later) you can now utilize the USER settings. This routing option allows you to mix and match any input type for all 32 inputs and additional USER settings for your outputs. Most people in your situation with the S32 will have some standard settings with your inputs coming across AES50A. Your "OUTS" tab would usually map to AES50 as well to send all 16 outputs to the S32. So far, these are all about the physical connections for inputs and outputs to monitors and main speakers. The "CARD" tab allows you to incorporate a computer for multitrack recording, streaming, or some other custom applications for FX racks (recent video). If you select the Card 1-8 it will take the signal from your input 1-8 just after the preamp and send this out the card... this is useful for multitrack recording raw tracks. To send a custom built mix (ie: live stream) out USB to a streaming software like OBS you need to use the User Output settings to route your mix to the appropriate USB channel on the card. Hopefully this helps clear some things up. If not, let me know and maybe I can put together a video with further explanation.

@@AllamHouse Thank you for such detailed explanations. This really clears things up for me. Thanks again Allamhouse. I really appreciate your patience with newbies like me Pls I have this other question: How do I make sure my mixing for the livestream affects just the matrix and not the house? I have been trying to do some mixing for the matrix by first selecting the matrix layer and channel and then making input fader adjustments, but when I get back to mains I expect to see faders flip back to their original position for mains but they don't. I tried even using sends on fader after selecting the matrix but, once I am done mixing and deactivating the sends on fader, my changes intended for matrix mix remain the same for the mains. I think I am doing something wrong. Pls help Also pls how do I make my crowd mic go to the matrix only and not the house? This is related to the above question, I think, cuz when I revert to mains after making changes as I did above, it also seem to reflect in the mains. One last question pls, is there something I need to activate before using my mute buttons, cuz they don't currently mute any channel on my mixer. Even when I cut off fader volume on my mixbuses feeding monitors, sound still comes out of the monitors I don't know how. I really appreciate you taking time to make these lessons to help many. This has helped my church. Thanks again a lot, you don't know how you save many from printing a return label for their x32. God bless
