Palestinian catholics were stuck in the middle between Muslims and Jews. Their population radically decreased and this can't be explained by Islamic aggression only. Agreed. Moreover, the terrorists who planned and implemented that attack were quickly identified or already known. I recall reading contemporary reports that the US could have taken them out with smart bombs/missiles through the windows of their hotel rooms even in that era. I wish I could remember for sure the reason cited that such action wasn't taken. I think it was concerns over collateral deaths and international condemnation, such as those that caused Bill Clinton to decline to kill Osama bin Laden on multiple opportunities he had years before the 2001/09/11 attack.
