I managed to pick up a strumstick from someone local selling a used one. I cant wait to play around with it. I only wish i had a better ear for notes and cords

Build my own strumstick out of old rubbish. I am amazed how easy it is to play.

@kieron will do at some point, good suggestion. In meantime, think of the ensemble rhythm the Wailers make. The drums bass guitar and keyboard interact to make a “group beat” if you count 1+2+3+4+, and emphasize •• 2+••4+ that’s kind of what people notice first.

Thanks Bob. Do you have any reggae strum patterns for Bob Marley fans?

Mine is a GAG tuned model? Does that really matter if I want to tune it to DAD instead? Just curious as I know the first song I would try to teach myself is Norwegian wood by the Beatles which is pretty easy in D. I’m not sure I’d be able to capo to make it sound right but just wondering if there’s really a difference in the D and G models from a tuning perspective? Thanks for all the info - mine is a 1992 model, and Evelyn has helped me with getting a bridge and strings (and info). Y’all are good people - thanks!

I doubt you'll answer but does the college Berea ring any bells? My Grandma went there and I have some questions

Those counts should be in a skipping rhythm, 1 a2 a3 a4 a , not equal bear/offbeat. And if you listen to say, Is This Love, the backbeat is a steady 1 a2 a3 a4 a , with accents from drum hits. Some songs the guitar is doing syncpation, playing just the “a”s all the way through. Listen for the group beat, the impression they make all together and try to emulate that. Unless of course you are fronting a great Reggae combo

It's a pity a C isn't deeper than the 6/9 combo.

Looks like a dulcimer to me 🤔 a Three string cigar box guitar would definitely be much better you could play a lot more music, and there's no wrong notes, your not limited to the pentatonic scale like your drumstick is.
