The person who had the least amount of history with Will was actually his fiancé! Lol

The only thing i didn’t like in the book was the whole stag build up, because it was building up to something really big😫 I was really disappointed by the reveal of what happened at the stag, I thought Charlie had cheated on Hannah on the stag or something as bad😔 Obviously Charlie did cheat on Hannah, but at a different time

My favourite part about the twist with Johnno and Will and the show was that at the very beginning, Jules says something about inviting the producer to the wedding and Will gets all panicky about it but we didn’t know why yet - and it’s because the producer talks to Johnno and spills the beans later on

Anyone else pick up the continuity issues at one point? With who helped Hannah out of the bog? And how Pete went missing during the search and was never mentioned again?
@razikboston34144 жыл бұрын
Hannah was helped by Duncan and another usher boy. After they assisted her Hannah thought they were being suggestive with her so she left them quickly.

I gave it 3 stars, I didn’t find it all predictable but the things I didn’t predict didn’t totally amaze me? I found the twists kinda unimpressive and ultimately found that this book is forgettable. Glad you finally did the live, I was curious to hear your thoughts!

5 stars for me. I love the atmosphere she built!

Just finished this book about 30 minutes ago so now I'm glad I have an hour-long discussion from you to watch! I liked it, I found the reveals predictable but loved the setting and writing

I actually read this one! I thought it got predictable very quickly, I didn't think every single thing was just Will, I thought it would be all of them in that friend group, so I was a little off. I still enjoyed it though, this type of mystery is exactly my thing, with a limited group of people in a isolated place, it's got that nice Agatha Christie feel. I gave it 3.5 stars.

Sad I missed this live! I wouldn’t recommend reading The Hunting Party after this, I enjoyed it but they are literally the exact same book so you will be reading it with total deja vu hanging over you 😅 I totally agree with the difference between UK thrillers and other countries, although as I’m Scottish I tend to like UK authors for the reason you might sometimes dislike them 😂 I.e. the mundane/reality - sometimes when I’m reading a North American thriller I almost find myself cringing at the drama of it all. But as you said, there are definitely exceptions and I love reading as many thrillers as I can to find the ones I love! 😃

For me The Guest List was 4/5. Second half was amazing 😍

I knew after the first chapter that it was the wedding planner and I knew it was the groom because of the synopsis it didn't mention the groom so I knew the groom was going to be dead... I just didn't know why she did it. The groom had personal ties to everyone so why is she even a person of interest what my thought process.

I gave it a 4 star. I quite enjoyed it. I just felt like everything tied together a little too unrealistically. The fact that everyone had history with Will in some way or another. Although I’m glad Lucy Foley put in other people with motives to kill one another as well. Like Hannah or Jules could have killed one another, Jules or Olivia could’ve killed one another, etc. obviously those weren’t as drawn out. But even if you guessed Will would die, there were at least a few other possibilities to keep in the back of your mind. All-in-all I just enjoyed how this was more of a classic “whodunnit”.

Sad I missed the live this time around, I actually gave this five stars on goodreads but looking back it’s probably closer to a 4/4.5. I’m Irish so loveddd the setting and little Irish references, and the who-done-it style had me flying through it towards the end. I didn’t predict anything, I knew Aoife and Freddy seemed a bit off but all the characters had good motive. I really enjoyed Hannah’s character☺️
@heyhey117933 жыл бұрын
I did that too! I was so excited I gave it 5 but later I thought 4.5 was more accurate. I liked Hannah too.

I love listening to UK thrllers on audio. I think because I love the accents of the narrators.

I missed this because I just finished. I liked the book for the most part, but the level of coincidence was egregious. I sure knew who I WANTED the murder victim to be.

I gave it 4 stars. I really have a hard time finding 5 star thrillers. I tend to buy them and read them and then trade them in at second hand stores because I tend to save books that really blew me away and made me think which just doesn’t happen often enough with thrillers. It’s weird I tend to find some urban fantasy/paranormal romance books have more enticing mysteries that leave me thinking more often than books that are said to be just thrillers.

Can I recommend Geek Love for the book club? It was written in the 80’s and leans more into body horror, but it’s so well crafted!
@DeeDeeCatMom3 жыл бұрын
You probably won't see this now but I liked the Hunting Party a lot more! It was a lot less predictable than the Guest List 😊 I'd give the Hunting Party a 3.5/5, but the Guest List a 2.5/5.

Crazy late to this as I just finished the book yesterday, but I loved your discussion! I felt a lot was pretty predictable but I have to say I 1000% agree with your anger of Charlie. The absolute audacity of that man... I am still so angry about him! I hope your well and I'm off to start "Zone One!" 💖
@danibroderick56063 жыл бұрын
The one thing that made me think johnno was actually the killer was that I felt like they stopped going back to his perspective as we got closer to the murder and I thought they were trying to do that thing where you kind of forget about the character leading up to the action scene.

Kayla: I hate when you wo main characters are actually the same person! Celeana Sardothien and Aelin Galathynius: * cackling *
@razikboston34144 жыл бұрын
Kayla hates when there's two established characters in the book that are revealed to be the same person at the end. Not a character that we follow that is revealed to be someone we don't really know (in celaena's case we only knew Aelin in passing. And i believe Aelin was assumed to be dead at the time.)

Ah damn, I was asleep when you went live. I gave The Guest List 3.5 stars. I really liked it! I see you read out my questions about U.K. vs US thrillers 😊 it’s interesting you say that U.K. thrillers focus more on the mundane aspects of life because I definitely find US thrillers to be more unrealistic and a bit hard to believe which I’m not a fan of.
@BooksandLala4 жыл бұрын
So true! I love an over the top, unrealistic thriller sometimes and I absolutely agree that US ones definitely are the ones that go there haha

A meh read for me. Forgotten about almost as soon as it was shelved, too many glaring inconsistencies, water is clear as a lagoon then grey and frothing within paragraphs, and poor research. A great setting but cormorants are quiet birds, they do not cackle, she has confused then with corvids. They do grunt, like a pig, which could have been creepier if only the author had looked into it. Even her description of the bird is wrong, she could have at least looked at a picture of one....
