Your video made me dig mine out of my reel storage and I was in the process of loading some of favorite Daiwa braid on it and was reminded why I put it storage . When adding tension the reel binds up . Too high gear ratio for me . Spooled the braid onto a Legalis instead.

Great video, which I was waiting for. Many people talked about that reel and the price went up a lot. I have several UL/L combo rods and reels. I was thinking about that reel, but it has become very expensive and many people talk about the resistance when winding, which I don't like at all. For now I'm sticking to Legalis and I'm very satisfied! I like the smoothness of the operation much more than the reduced weight. We are waiting for a new video and reviews, thanks :)

Thank you for another great video ! I have written off KastKing as an inferior product brand but you have me re-thinking it. Maybe ... just maybe I will return. Also, can you tell me what scale you use? I have been trying to find a scale that does not need to be calibrated after purchasing and has the sensitivity to weigh lures and bullet weights. Thus far, no luck. Anyway, your videos are entertaining, informative and professional. Keep up the A+ work.

It will be interesting to see if the spool can fit on a Daiwa presso.. seems like it would fit!!!But even more interesting is how it compares with a Legalis for a lot cheaper… you should make a video of the reel open up and see how they build this thing.. remove that heavy grease and do your thing! 😉👍🏻

I have seen these for a while, i have their bfs krestel reel. I just havent gotten one yet because i have bitten the poison apple of shimano diawa gearing. I have heard good things of the line lay on this reel though. One thing i will add that may or not be relevent is my krestel is magnesium frame, and the gears vibrations are exasperated to your hand, so it doesnt feel as great. However the spinning is a carbon/polymer frame so i guess that may be irrelevent. You will have to tell us how it fishes against the flagships and if its worth just dumping double the cash in for a soare or vanford KK dumps tractor grease in their reels, it will get worse in winter also friend 😆 (also sometimes when i regrease reels for less resistance the gears vibrations become more apparent

Grate video, im leaving in Austria and i buy this reel for ul zander fishing but the problem is that we have too much silver carp so hook two of them one was 22kg other 19kg soon after that reel get some light clicking noise... its nice reel but i was hoping that its gonna be little bit bigger. I_fish I'm new to ultralight and I have only used nylon line but I thought braided line was more sensitive so I was wondering why don't you use braided line when you are twitching and using a swim bait instead of the polyester line you buy

If u are new and want sensitivity, u should go for braid. I just hate the way ot feels, like driving a car with no shock absorbers. When u fish more u will see what i mean.

Kastking also makes a model called zephyr sfs. Slightly heavier, less bearings, and slower ratio...but it's black with the same color spool 😮 or at least it looks like the same color spool

Amazing reel, love every aspect about it except one. Minimum drag is still pretty stiff, only a fish that weights 100g+ can start to spool it of. But the sound is amazing, it's the loudest drag for UL fishing reel for sure

@@RonMTube The reel is hard to brush off, if weight is important for you. And sometimes weight is important. It definitely isn't on the same level as legalis or sahara in terms of refinement, but the sahara is 70 grams heavier. I don't care how cheap your rod is, everybody will notice a 70 gram difference.. It may be worth to some people to tolerate the higher resistance and slightly less refined feel.

Now u ask for the rod as for reinforcement : ) This rod looks a little stiff to me, just looking at the diameter of the blank.. i don't think it will match my fishing..

Interesting video. I have one on order from Aliexpress. I was intrigued by the ultralight weight as well. For the current price, I figured it was worth a try. I already have the Zephyr SFS which is a okay reel but not great. The zephyr has a cheap feel to it - like a cheap hollow graphite frame reel. In this budget price range, I think the Piscifun carbon X II is a better reel. But the drag on the carbon X sounds very high pitched and irritating. The bail flip on the Zephyr is also very heavy. That is one of the most annoying things about the reel. It seems the Kestrel has the same issue. I'm glad they changed the handle knob on the kestrel. I hate the bulky foam knobs on these cheaper Chinese reels. I put daiwa knobs on all of my Piscifun carbon x reels. I put a basszone rubber knob on my Zephyr. Like you I'm going to try the Kestrel on a presso rod for float fishing. I have the Zephyr on an older Daiwa spinmatic rod that i use to float fish in creeks and rivers for trout.

I will have to say, I was kind of disappointed at my Kestrel SFS reel. Out of the box it has a scratchy sound that has not gone away. I tried oiling it but the sound is still there. Also it doesn't seem as smooth as the cheaper Zephyr SFS. Hopefully it'll get better with more usage. I'm still somewhat bothered by the high resistance of opening and closing the bail. The resistance makes it feel like a much bigger bail. Maybe something from a 3000 size reel.

@@ifishcatfish The reason I am asking is that I am torn between Vanford 2000 normal and 2000 SHG for faster retrieval. I would use it for casting 0.2-1 gram baits. It's like a mini jig but a bit different. Kastking kestrel start up force a bit too much for it. Someone suggested fast retrieval reel, but I am 5:2 ish would be just fine.

I recommend getting rid of the carbon drag and put felt drag there. And then put some tractor grease on the felt. Thats what i did and will be showing in the next few videos. Drag is super smooth now. My reel does not have issue when i reel fast, but the resistance is a little annoying. But thats from the high gear ratio..

The color is admittedly nice, just wish it wasnt a Kastking. I dont care if they have 30 bearings in there, its not going to beat a Shimano or Daiwa product at an MSRP of $119.99, especially once it starts seeing more use. Its like a reel designed by AI, aesthetically pleasing but the design is ultimately an amalgam of other better executed products.

Personally have no problem opening and replacing premium grease/oil to new reel but this reel is way too expensive for what it is. The right price is around 80 dollars. Daiwa should make 1000 size Legalis with 6.2 gear ratio to compete other brands in this size.

I DID SEE THAT about Legalis LT, and it was JUST for the models i recommended! Daiwa hasn't even sent me a free hat, lol : ) I'm kidding, i don't want any commission from anybody, not even from Daiwa. I declined getting commissions on Varivas lines even though i use and inadvertently promote them all the time. I have a feeling these commissions are like 20 dollars a month, and i don't want to have obligations to any body for 20 dollars a month.
