We almost got hit by Wilma in Cancun. I insisted to my husband that we at least get a flight to Huston, if it didn't hit we could go back. People who were with us stayed and were stuck for 10 days until they could get inland to an airport, because the Cancun airport was destroyed. I will never take these threats lightly. Better to get out than be sorry. I feel so badly for the number of people who have been killed, mostly by floodwaters nowhere near landfall. Prayers for their families, who probably have to rebuild on top of their grief.

In comparison to what other channels are banking on, this is your typical and allowable “clickbait” if you want to call it that. Because we’re currently in the highest phase of activity to date this hurricane season.

You “broadcast meteorologists “ need to take a chill pill. All you do is parrot the GFS, EUR9, CMC, etc. as well as the NHC forecast products. I don’t think that many of you ACTUALLY understand thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and some of the fundamental physics that actually drive the weather. There are a lot of weather enthusiasts with expert scientific backgrounds NOT in “broadcast meteorology” that can observe the plethora of pure physical data available from all the sources, plot that data, analyze it using PURE PHYSICS KNOWLEDGE, and produce conclusions that are very often MORE ACCURATE than the computer models and “authoritative sources” that you follow like religious zealots. That is a problem that extends beyond just weather forecasting. The “authoritative sources” have fed so much misinformation to the public that they are no longer trusted by a large proportion but instead of addressing the actual problem, they focus on discrediting and censoring those that publish alternative viewpoints or that attempt to identify the reason why so much false information originates from the self-appointed “authoritative sources”. The public wants an honest and credible source in which it can have faith instead of having to cross-reference dozens of disparate sources and then synthesize the closest visualization to the truth from comparisons between them. I’m not questioning your sincerity in wanting to make sure that the public has access to the best information but stop acting as if the NOAA and its sycophantic lemmings publish the only valid viewpoints to consider. Helene followed the NHC cone up to landfall and then went where it wanted. There were quite a few “KZbin forecasters” that opined that Helene in their opinion would move east of the NHC projected path and THEY were correct. Myself, I’m an electrical engineer and for any tropical system that could possibly present a threat to my family, I will collect the data from many different sources and produce my own charts and numerical models based on the actual data. I compare with weather models also and attempt to figure out the causes of discrepancies and then correct my conclusions appropriately. I do not publish my conclusions no matter how convinced I am of their accuracy because I could be wrong and, regardless of our first amendment, there is NOT freedom of speech when government and media organizations collectively decide who individual citizens should deem ‘credible’ based on accreditations that they produce and award on conditions that do not directly correlate to accuracy of results. The NHC got it wrong regarding the inland oath and several “unaccredited” sources (whom KZbin and the supposedly authoritative sources ironically deem “misinformation” or “disinformation” or worse) actually were more accurate because they base their conclusions primarily on science and do not allow organizational protocols and practices that have goals other than scientific accuracy to influence what they publish. I will agree that those ignorant of science and apathetic beyond the most minimal survival and property protection interests should listen to accredited sources like your channel. That gives them more time to watch “Game of Thrones” or other cognitively atrophying entertainment crap rather than actually learning useful knowledge like weather science and they can just whine like all the other sheeple when their reliance on authority and need to be entertained causes personal loss.

@@hearmeout9138 You didn’t really watch my video. Nope they got it right the whole way. Catastrophic flooding and Georgia wind event. Winds were spread out to the east and warnings were issued. We talked about that. Warned about the inland wind and flood threat. Please troll elsewhere. Credible matters. That credibility is earned. People on KZbin led a number of people astray. It cost people this time. No question. - Jonathan

@@just_weather I’m not trolling. It’s not personal. I’m just frustrated by the forced exclusivity of viewpoints that may be well- reasoned. The center of the system was well outside of the NHC cone by about 100 miles inland. People must use the information published two or three days prior to landfall to plan and those that put on blinders and only considered the NHC info for inland track were misled. The NHC changing its cone incrementally on approach allows them to claim accuracy but it may not help those that suddenly are in the cone 3 hours before impact. At least you responded. When I present a comment that is positive or thought-provoking, no one ever replies. I guess social media has it right when they publish negative emotion-provoking content to promote interaction. Credibility IS earned, but not by merit or accuracy in conclusions apparently. I am an engineer like Tim Samaras was and I enjoy meteorology. There are many of us that zealously seek better accuracy in forecasts and we are ACTUALLY spending our leisure time trying to apply technology and knowledge to improve understanding of meteorology but we are always discredited by “self-proclaimed” experts because we didn’t take the “Broadcast Meteorology” curriculum and get our little badge to display. You may consider me a troll but I’d rather be a troll who is correct than an expert who simply ignores anyone outside my AMS tribe for illogical reasons.

@@hearmeout9138 The cone changes yes…however impact forecasts did not. Impacts are always felt outside of the cone. I mentioned warnings were in place. It was clear and communicated that the wind field was extremely large and east of the center I called you a troll because you put broadcast meteorologist in quotation marks. I chose the broadcast side because I enjoy explaining the weather and am up for the challenge to communicate impacts to people. I’m all for having conversations but I took that personally. - Jonathan

@@just_weather I apologize for the direct addressing of “broadcast meteorologists”. You are actually one of my favorite sources. I am just frustrated by the behavior of KZbin personalities discrediting others over certain aspects that I don’t think are that important. I simply think credibility should be based on results and not simply the completion of a particular curriculum. Albert Einstein was not even a professor when he produced two of his most famous theories regarding photons and special relativity. His merit preceded his credentials. That is how it should be but it seems the opposite is true today.
